What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

One more Hallmark movie I saw recently was "Take Me Back to Christmas." It had a little fantasy in it where she is transported in time. The protagonist is Vanessa Lengies. Fantastic acting by her. She doesn't have to speak; her eyes and emotions tell it all.

I've been bingeing on Hallmark movies lately. I'll find an actor or actress that I like and watch several of their movies.

Most recently, I've been watching Rachel Skarsten movies. I really liked "The Royal Nanny," in which she is a special agent who becomes a nanny to the royal family to protect them. She is smart, athletic, and uses her umbrella resourcefully.

The second movie she acts in is "The Christmas Charade." In this movie, she is a librarian but ends up working with an FBI agent (Corey Sevier). Lots of suspense. This woman has many talents (studied literature and dance), and it shows in these movies; she's a problem-solver and a good dancer. A surprise twist in the end raises it to another level.

These two movies felt a cut above the typical Hallmark movies. Searching for more...
I've seen and liked them both. There's another good one she's in called Christmas Island, with Andrew Walker.
She plays a pilot in that one.

It still cracks me up, too. That scene in the dinner with Tony Randall is simply hilarious.
[Pillow Talk] Yeah, that diner scene was a great gag and well constructed.
One of my laugh-out-loud scenes was at the cabin when Doris Day plays the melody to the song, and gradually realizes that she's been had. When she stomps out to the perfect raucous sound track is a riot.

And that movie catapulted Tony Randall into stardom.

The Accidental Tourist (1988)

Wm Hurt
Kathleen Turner
Geena Davis (Best Supporting Actress)

This may be the third time I've seen the movie and the first time I got the full impact of what it is about because I've had many more life experiences to reflect upon including and since my wife died.

I always enjoyed the movie but didn't realize how impactful life changing experiences could be until I had some myself.

It explores marriage but I think it lacks an important component to marriage and that is that it's a lifelong, serious commitment to one person and not an option.

I finished Leave The World Behind within 24 hours, which is kind of rare for me these days. It was okay and I probably wouldn't have kept watching if Mahershala Ali wasn't in it. He looks so much like my beloved, deceased Uncle Freddie and he's a great actor. But I was curious about where this film was heading. What mysterious thing terrorized them? I knew things were shaky when I saw that YT has a video to explain the ending, but I kept watching anyway. Yeah, the ending left something to be desired.

Wikipedia describes it as an "apocalyptic psychological thriller". I'm not much into psychological thrillers, nor apocalyptic movies. I found it to be somewhat a character study. I also could have done without the what seems to be obligatory these days....the F bombs, but at least they weren't in every other sentence.

I read the book it's based on and wasn't that thrilled about it so I decided not to watch the movie. (The ending of the book left something to be desired also.)

Reservation Road on Prime Video starring Joaquin Phoenix and Mark Ruffalo. Good movie! I'd seen it before and remembered the plot, but it was still worth a second watch.
The fates of two men and their families converge following a tragic accident. Ethan Lerner (Joaquin Phoenix) and his family are on the way home from their son's cello recital. The same evening, law associate Dwight Arno (Mark Ruffalo) and his son are returning from a ballgame. In a flash, the unthinkable happens, and Ethan's son dies beneath the wheels of Dwight's car. Dwight speeds away, and Ethan, as the only witness to the tragedy, begins his quest for justice.

Witness For The Prosecution (1957)
Tyrone Power, Marlene Dietrich, and Charles Laughton

First time I've seen the whole thing from beginning to end. (on TUBI.TV free streaming).

Courtroom drama by Agatha Christie. Excellent performances and script.
That's a great picture. Charles Laughton's performance was absolutely stunning. It's a good story, and Dietrich did a wonderful job in her twist part.I always get a kick out of watching the great Elsa Lanchester. And who better to direct than the inimitable Billy Wilder!

The Lost Bus (2025)

It's pretty much what one would expect from a true disaster thriller. In this case the production was heightened first by the excellent cinematography, editing, and live footage; and also by the charisma of Matthew McConaughey and good work by America Ferrera.

The Californian Camp Fire of 2018 was billed as the deadliest fire in Calif. history, although the fires started by the 1905 San Francisco earthquake took far more lives.
Nevertheless the Camp Fire trapped a lot of people.

This film was based upon a local school bus driver who safely prevented the deaths of 22 student riders by deftly driving them though carnage to safety.

It's one of those films where you know what its about, and are pretty sure of the outcome, but you watch it anyway, enjoying the suspense and danger along the way.

Apple+, etc.
Doc's rating: 6/10

Officer, I'm curious. In the movie, Julia Roberts character, one of the rental guests, expresses hostile skepticism when the owners of the fabulous house they rented show up dressed in formal attire and they are Black. Was that part of the plot in the book?
Mahershala Ali. I also love this guy. @OneEyedDiva
I am related to an actress who appeared with him on several shows. She said that he is a wonderful person as well
That is way cool. Can you remember any of the shows? I first saw him in the Sci Fi show The 4400. I actually watched the series twice. I wonder if you relative has been in anything with my cousin Keith David. Perhaps you can ask her those questions if you're still in touch. 🤗 I'm so glad to read that he's a wonderful person. Another characteristic he shares with my late uncle.

This is a scene from the first film, called Before Sunrise, where they meet and discuss everything under the sun it seems.
I was just reading a few minutes ago that Before Sunrise was among 25 films that were recently added to the National Film Registry. I don't know how meaningful that is, and I'm not sure if I've ever heard of the National Film Registry. I don't know if they select 25 films each year or what criteria they use to select films for the honor.

I find it interesting that Before Sunrise would be selected, because besides you, I've never heard anyone talk about it. It's a low budget film and what I would consider obscure, even though it held my interest, and I've re watched it a number of times. I started directing my attention to Ethane Hawke after that movie.
