Good morning, all! Busy day ahead here. 22 month old just arrived for the day, our overnight guest will arrive around 4:30pm, then my son, DIL and their 4 year old will come for dinner and the evening.

We'll have the 4 year old all day tomorrow plus the 22 month old in the afternoon/evening. DS asked if we could take both kids for a while so he & his wife could have a few hour break - and a little alone time. ❤️

Hope all of you can make today a good one!

Still nothing exciting going on, here!

Good morning, everyone. It is cold out 32 degrees but warmer tonight at 43 degrees and then the weekend with 21 degrees as a low on Saturday and 24 on Sunday. The big freeze, I guess, hitting the Southeast.

I am going out this morning to uncover my Gardenia plant and then have to cover again for the weekend. My old plant seems to survive while other plants in people's yards are dead from the cold. It has been over 18 years since I bought it and is in a planted pot. It sometimes has many flowers and sometimes not so many.

I hope you all will have a good day and please take care of yourselves. :)

I lost about a half dozen creeping gardenias about five years ago. We has a cold sbap and I had no idea they needed to be covered. They had lasted decades before that.

The news this morning was dreadful plus a major snow storm is predicted for tomorrow. I miss having an able bodied man around. The guys are great at opening jars which I really appreciate but not so hot at anything heavy duty. I do pay one of them for yard work so maybe I could do the same for shoveling if needed.

It is also going to be frigid. I worry about the cats. There is a small space for them to go under the deck and sun room. Too small for dogs or coyotes which is great. I will have to make sure the snow doesn;t block them in.

And now for the good news... I will have to check the good News Network and get back to you.

I got out today. DH and I usually got the Fajita special on Friday. :(
I want to buy some clothes but nothing new is in yet. I guess Presidents Day will be the time for Spring arrivals. Then actual Spring...I can't wait.
I bought a few little things but not getting the dopamine hit I was looking for.
I feel like I have a job. It's dealing with V.A., S.S., plumbers, lawn guys, searching for documents and things like generators and snow shovels long lost in an overfilled shed.
I am lucky though. I'm secure and have everything I need. I want my husband though.
Yesterday I picked two cabbages from his garden. The first year he did an actual winter garden. He would be so proud of the cabbage and Brussel Sprouts this year! I cooked the cabbage with onions and carrots and thanked him. He did good.

It was yesterday. Wrapped up more business early which caused a late arrival at the lift. Wx was warm w a slight breeze on top. Skiing wasn't as good since it's warmed up the last few days.

Couple views to the north east.

In the picture below the slope in the foreground with sagebrush exposed is called Sunny Side South Slopes, it's sunny and faces south. 3 years ago after a big storm a local guy in his 60's died there from a heart attack or asphyxiated after landing upside down in a tree well while powder skiing. We never hear all the details unfortunately.

The tree wells are huge traps on powder days. I was caught in one in my younger and dumber days, but managed to get my skis off and self extricate.

My new medium weight jacket! I had +-400 days on the old one so it had lost 50% of it's R factor.

Yesterday I went to the local gun range and took an hour's instruction on my pistol, pew, pew, pew!!! Got it sighted in, went over the basics, talked about interactions w the police and shot some more. That certainly helped my confidence. I will not be daily carrying as I'll never be more confident in my ability to shoot as I am in my ability to avoid conflict. It's strictly a tool to be used at Yellowstone where there are black and grizzly bears everywhere. It will replace my awkward and heavy shot gun.

It is today - guess what? More skiing!!! Saturday is packed usually so I'll be in line for the opening bell, a few runs and then out of there. Wifey is coming back form Boise w a costco order so it'll be a fun day.

Morning all, when I woke up at 6:30 checked my phone temp was 7,knew I wasn't going to outside another bone chilling day, high near 14,wind chills below zero. I'm a little sore from yesterday's exercise class, we didn't; have it last week because our instructor, Susie was sick
No real plans today, I'll be doing my exercise walking the hallway a couple of times, see what the lunch& dinner menu has to offer. Tonight will be watching another episode at 8pm on BBC America,'Kingdoms' narrated by David Attenborough enjoying this special series
Everybody have a good day

Had a nice day with toddler GS yesterday. The four year old will come later this morning and we may run a couple of errands with him. Toddler brother will join the fray this afternoon for a few hours to give DS & DDIL a break.

It was lovely to have our overnight guest - nice to catch up with him. He left for work early this morning. I'll strip the bed tomorrow to set up for my sister's arrival in a few days.

When we have a GK here, we pretty much focus our attention on them, so I expect my day to be spent with magnet tiles, Lincoln logs, Hot Wheels tracks and the train set.

Today was my first day to leave home since Friday. The ice melted and streets were clear. All the tires needed air, so I did that first (glad I bought an air compressor last year). Went to p.o. box; not as much business mail as expected, thankfully, then to Walmart. Nothing I had to get, but a few things I can use, and needed to stay out awhile to get rid of cabin fever.

I don't know what's going on at this Walmart. No frozen pecan pies. When I asked, I was told those are only sold fresh in the bakery now. Not one jar of regular unsalted peanuts, and no spot for them anymore on the shelf. I like to have those for a healthy snack - but they've cut back on all nut products. No pecans either. Only Roma tomatoes -no ordinary big tomatoes and the section where they were has something else now. Apparently hard times are making people stop buying some of the regular things I always get, so the store isno longer stocking them.
I hate when they stop selling a favorite of mine. Last was Blue Bunny frozen yogurt.

Yes, I understand. I liked Blue Bunny frozen yogurt - that reminds me, I haven't seen it here in quite awhile.

Walmart's bakery-made pecan pies cost $1.00 more than the frozen and aren't as good. Next time I'll pick one up at the regular grocery store, even though it will cost a bit more.

@againstthegrain We can also go skiing in California. Ski conditions in the local mountains at 6,000 feet (Snow Valley)
and at 7,000 feet (Big Bear) are not always good. For much better skiing, we have to drive about 6 hours to Mammoth
Mountain in the Sierra Nevada. This picture was taken in 1998 when our teenage daughters still enjoyed staying with their
parents. In those days, we skied from the top of 11,000 feet down 2,000 feet to the ski lodge. I think the last time I went
skiing in the local mountains was at age 82, while I hiked the last time a local 3,000 ft. high mountain at age 84.

As with skiing, we always had a great time with our children. This picture shows us on an Alaska cruise in 1999. I felt like a
king because boys were hanging around me and were eager doing me favors just hoping that I would invite them to sit on
the table with my two beautiful teenage girls.

At a certain age, our daughters took off with their boyfriends rather than staying with their parents. Our last trip as a family
was spending the Millennium in Paris: New Years Eve at the Carousel de Paris, and New Years Day at the Moulin Rouge.

Aside from the family, I also love nature. On my walk this morning, I watched Woody Woodpecker trying to find a worm in a
telephone pole, and I listened to the beautiful singing of a mocking bird. I am so grateful for everything God is giving me.

As a penniless immigrant from Germany, I am living the American dream.

It took several cups of coffee, but I made it here before noon!

One by one, all of my kitchen cabinets have been emptied and cleaned, except for the corner one that I call Argentina. (Yes....I've named my cabinet can Argentina!!

) I'm not sure if I'm going to go to Argentina. I might be too slothful to tackle that job, at least today, anyway.

I have also finished backing up all of my 2025 photos....I'm glad to have them done. Now I can get started on the 1980's pictures.

"Hi Senior Forums friends. I am having outpatient back surgery, specifically "minimally invasive lumbar decompression"

Hey everyone. Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers. The operation was a success. Back feels much better, so far anyways. I spent three nights in the continuing care unit at my retirement community. Two of my daughters and grandkids brought me back home today to my cottage. I do feel very tired later in the day, so one daughter is going to keep my dog for at least another week. Particularly given all of this snow and ice (we had about 12 inches) which is not going anywhere anytime soon give the single digit temperatures.
