Quite the mystery.

In the US, when you're deliberately sent something you didn't order (meaning it wasn't a mis-delivery), it's yours to keep. Is it the same in the UK?
well yes.. but this was addressed specifically to me... to my actual real name.. and like I say only one company aside from the Driving licence company and my Bank.. know my real name..I absolutely never use it online to shop...

really ?..in the UK they wouldn't have a leg to stand on... once you've left the store.. it's their loss...

I think it depends where in the US one lives. One of the towns I shop in is fairly small and that would pretty much be the same situation with them.

When we moved here 23 years ago, we needed some parts for something. I was working part time, and my husband was working full-time. The folks at the store said they would hang the bag on the door knob and to just slip the money in an envelope under the door. they did and we did, and welcome to a small town in the southern middle Tennessee. There are places where honesty still prevails, we just don’t hear about it very often.😇

@KSav, that’s a terrible predicament. You can’t be without medical insurance.

Do you have city buses? Ubers? Are you close to stores that you could walk to? Food delivery services.
Thanks, @Jules, and @hollydolly and @StarSong.

I'm not willing to go without a car at this point. My town does have a bus system, and we just got Uber recently, but from what I've read both are limited and unreliable here. The bus system in particular has a very poor reputation.

I'll just see what they say on Tuesday, I guess.

I've lived in various parts of the City of Los Angeles for over 50 years now. Percentage-wise, I've found as many honest people here as in the small towns where I grew up.

Our local market town used to be exactly like that.... but then we got a lot of overspill population from London, and so trust went out of the window after some thefts...

here where I live the famers put out fresh groceries, to pay for through an honesty box... Honey, Ducks eggs , hens eggs, Jams etc

Our service here is actually very reliable. Way better than the cab companies we had. More convenient than the bus. I wouldn't rule out the Uber. If it's just now getting Uber it might take a little bit to get things situated for them and make it more efficient. Hope things work out with your vehicle. I've not had one for a while now.

@HoneyNut good luck and hope you feel better soon!

to me, that is just ridiculous! Dentists have also been pulled into the opioid so called crisis.
Blessed, thanks for the concern. Actually the Tramadol prescription is (apparently) an opioid, so the pain I was in yesterday was just in spite of it all. I'm glad they prescribed it, the only different treatment of the opioid prescription that I can detect is that the pharmacy put two checkmarks next to the qty on the bottle, so they must have an extra verification step when counting them out.

The pain is a lot better today, though Jello is still too 'hard' to eat! I melted a bit of jello in the microwave and made a milk+yogurt+jello drink for my breakfast (the jello firmed back up when I added it to the drink but was in tiny shreds and drinkable) (credit for the recipe goes to AI, never would have thought of it myself).

To all suffering with pain and pain in the neck cars etc I hope all is well soon!

I've been dealing with a broken dryer. A 20+ yr old Kenmore washer and dryer set. Three months ago the dryer stopped producing heat. DH, Steve. His name was Steve.
He diagnosed the problem and we prepped it all for replacing the thermal cut off. He was going to finish when we got back from vacation. As most of you know, he didn't make it back. My son finished the job. Great.
Now it's doing the same thing. It occurred to me when he ordered the parts he ordered a heating element and another cut off switch.

I decided to try and fix it with YouTube. I replaced both those parts but no luck.
So, I went and bought a new washer and dryer today to be delivered tomorrow.
I learned a lot fixing the dryer but mostly that I don't want to fix 20 yr old appliances.

You are such a brave soldier, and that's not meant to be as patronising as it reads..... but I'm just in awe of your strength... . It's such a short time since you lost your dear husband , and you're soldiering on like a hero... (((hugs)))

She sent me this....

So what I've done is gone to the 2 places that have my full name... and changed my name and my password.... just in case....

Afternoon Peeps of SF.... on this glorious... sunny.. but VERRY windy Saturday afternoon..... 🌷 ☀️

A full on national panic now with regard Fuel has started. Many smaller Garages are now closing completely rather than charge £2.00 = $2.55 USD = $3.86 Australian apprx... per Litre of petrol... and the bigger ones are now strictly rationing.
For me it's not a problem because I don't have to go to work... I'm just hoping that there will be enough for me to make my trip to my daughters' for her Birthday celebrations in 2 weeks time.. It's a BIG birthday so it would very disappointing if I couldn't get there through lack of the availability of fuel.

Food is shooting up in price as well

We went through all of this during Covid ...
:(

Anyway doom and gloom be off with you........hope everyone has the best day they can....🤗

Tramadol is not an opioid @HoneyNut. Seems to mimic at first but is not
The pharmacy paperwork that they staple to it says it is an opioid. Per Google it is a 'synthetic' opioid. Also I found this bit of info that it doesn't work like an opioid in some people because they don't have an enzyme that converts it (apparently it starts as not very effective until enzymes in a person's liver converts it to a strong form of opioid).

Pro-drug PharmacologyTramadol differs from most other opioids in that it is aprodrug, meaning that the drug itself has very limitedaffinity at the mu opioid receptor (MOR)9 (Figure 1).Tramadol is marketed as a racemic mixture of (+) and(-) enantiomers. The (+) configuration has 20 timesmore MOR affinity than the (-) configuration, thoughstill several thousand times less than morphine. On the other hand, the M1 tramadol metabolite(O-desmethyltramadol) has a MOR affinity only10 times less than morphine 9 and is probably themechanism by which tramadol has most of its opioideffect. Thus, it is not tramadol, but it’s metabolite, that is most responsible for the drug’s opioid analgesiceffect.
Still, no one would argue that codeine, another pro-drug (metabolized to morphine), is not an opioid. Indeed, like codeine, the opioid effects of tramadol are greatly affected by the pharmacogenetics of the cytochrome P-450enzyme 2D6 (CYP2D6) which selectively metabolizes tramadol to M1. People with genetic polymorphisms reducing theactivity of CYP2D6 (“poor metabolizers”), including 20% of African Americans, 10% of Caucasians and 2% of Asians, willlack significant opioid effect from tramadol

My daughter has just reminded me that from the 31st of April for 5 days all fresh vegetables in the major supermarkets will be reduced to pennies per pound.. They do this every Easter....

..so I will got to Aldi or Lidl.. and buy potatoes, carrots etc... and then blanch and freeze.. and they will do me for many months ahead.. for literally pennies

veggies-Easter.jpg

Just to remind those who are not metric.. that 2kg..is = 4 1/2 pounds ...in weight... so 2kgs of each veggies for just 8p per pack 1 Kg is 2.2 pounds ( onions & Carrots ) 500grams is I pound... ( parsnips) ....= 11 cents US

This is our headlines today sadly.. because of the huge increase in the price of petrol & diesel.... due to the US/Iran/Israel war

Prepare for driving restrictions and four-day working weeks as Iran crisis deepens,

Nick Butler, former BP head of strategy and a policy advisor to ex-PM Gordon Brown, said limiting drivers to alternate days based on their vehicle's registration number would be one measure.

Another would be for employers to allow an extra day off for staff every week to reduce commuter traffic.

He urged the Government to reassure people by telling them 'what was going to happen' if the Iran war dragged on.

'If supplies are cut by 20 per cent, then someone is using 20 per cent less,' he said.

'The Government has to protect the key sectors of the economy – food supply, health service, schools and so on – and then it has to work out how it's going to manage the market for the rest of us.

'I don't think they can just leave it to a free-for-all, which would be chaotic and very regressive and unfair to those of limited ability to pay.

Those sort of measures are a form of rationing that will constrain demand to bring a new balance with supply.'

He told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that the squeeze on fuel would not be resolved quickly – even if political agreement was reached.

'There is real damage to facilities and supplies,' he said. 'Some refineries have been knocked out, the gas terminal in Qatar has been knocked out and that will take a long while to put back into order.

'So we're going to have a problem over quite an extended period.'

Mr Butler, a visiting professor at King's College London, said ministers needed to maximise production of the UK's North Sea oil, although this was not an immediate solution.

Meanwhile, consumers should be protected against price-gouging by fuel suppliers through 'forensic audits' of company accounts.

'The Government should be setting out a plan now to manage really serious potential shortages which could develop if this conflict goes on and [the Strait of] Hormuz isn't opened pretty soon,' he added.

'The risk is panic buying, which would be terrible. The Government has a responsibility to calm the market by showing how they are going to cope with this situation.'

Meanwhile, small petrol stations are being forced to close their pumps rather than charge £2 per litre as supermarkets warn of 'tight' supplies amid the war in Iran.

Wow, that's special!
Are there any quantity limits?

Son & grandson surprised me with a visit. We went to a Shake Shack. Ive never been to one. The burgers 🍔 smelled real good but we only had shakes and shared some fries due to the hour.

Tomorrow my son will pick me up for the hospital. Feel a bit sad to leave this private room I have. The PT here was good and…………let’s face it I had that surgery before that I am having Monday. It’s extremely painful. Also will want to go home but strongly doubt hospital will give permission. In that case I will be readmitted here.

I want to go home desperately. I want this painful operation to be a success so I don’t face amputation. I want. I want. I want.

We want that too, for you, and we'll be hoping.❤️
