Why people laugh less these days

It seems like we’ve all become too thin skinned and are more easily offended than we used to be.

Maybe it’s one more thing that we can blame on social media. 🤔

Humor and laughter are there, but you may have to dig for them….

There’ve been some great humorists… check the writings of Will Rogers, Mark Twain, Abe Lincoln…

Authors that keep one in stitches— PG Wodehouse, Dave Barry, Terry Pratchett…

Old school comedians can be enjoyed on YouTube — Red Skelton (his routines have made me laugh till I had cramps in my cheeks 😂), Steve Allen, Bob Hope, Victoria Borge (another cheek-cramp-inducing genius)

I make it a point to share humor with my kids nearly every day via messanger— cartoons, videos, etc

Keep on the lookout for laughter and share it when you find it— I’ll see you in the humor section ☺️

I loved his way of explaining how we have lost our vocabulary ability over centuries. The most joyous sound to a parent's ear
is that first baby's laugh. How many remember that feeling hearing that? And such a perfect timing for that laugh to happen. ;)

I try to see the humor in everything. It does make others angry and perplexed at times. But that is their issue. It’s a short life. I try to find the joy in small things and large. I remember Chris Rock the comedian saying that if you are happy, life is short. But if you are miserable, it’s loooong.
 
I still laugh all the time, but then I'm not on Social Media very much. We just watched Jury Duty on Prime, which is hysterical and I was laughing all the way through it. Hubs usually laughs watching me laugh. But then he makes me laugh as well. I REFUSE to give it up!
 
I stopped a young man driving 71 mph in a 55 zone probably about 1980. I could tell by his license that he had just got his license in the last few months. When I got to the vehicle, I asked him if he knew the reason why I stopped him. (Always be truthful.) He told me he thought “maybe” he was going a little too fast. I told him I clocked him going 71 in a 55 zone. That’s a nearly $200 fine.

I could tell he probably had mom or dad’s car and I could see the look of disappointment on his face. I asked him what grade was he in. He said “Eleventh, Sir.” I said OK, I will ask you a science question and if you can answer correctly, I won’t have to do any paperwork and you will be on your way. Is that a deal? He agreed.

I asked him “When you look up at the stars at night and you see a shooting star, what is its true name? He smiled and said, “I think it’s a meteor.” I said good for you. Now, slow down and remember, I patrol this area. Next time I stop you, there won’t be any questions. I told my wife about this encounter and she laughed until she had tears in her eyes. She told me “Only you would do something like that.” I told her I would take that as a compliment.

I tell the Cadets to always think ahead. Think about what effect your actions will have on your guy or girl. Young driver driving parent’s vehicle. Parents are going to be upset, maybe ground the kid and not to mention the rise in his/her insurance rates. I have to live with myself and go to church and tell God I did the best job I could do for humanity. Sorry, but no thanks. Had he been 25 driving a sports car, maybe a different outcome. Again, it depends on the driver’s attitude. Did he/she show me respect? Did he/she accept responsibility?

It’s usually the little things that matter and are never forgotten. I may not remember the kid in 5 years, but if he sees me out and about, he will remember me and tell me “thanks” again. That’s my payback. It has happened to me a few times.

Your words remind me so much of my son as an Officer, harms my heart deeply and assures me he was one of the great ones, just as you are.
