Really? He's not coming up when I searched members 2 minutes ago. Are you sure?Rakaia's profile is still here and it shows that he was last online earlier today.
In the solid blue bar at the top, it says Members - here's a screenshot:@MACKTEXAS Yes. Go on Rakaia's last thread "What's pleased you today ...." and click on his name. I just checked:

When I click there (where is says Members in my red circle) and then scrolled down to "Find Member" and enter the name, he won't come up. Other members do. The site appears to not be working consistently.
Anyway, I found him using your method. Thanks.
I think Rakala is still around. He will be back.I've made many friends on SF over the past 8-1/2. I'd worry if they disappeared without a word and am pretty sure they'd feel the same about me.
If I decided it was time for me to go, I'd do so without a flounce-out. Perhaps a post explaining I was dealing with vision or health challenges, or felt the forum was no longer a good place for me to be. I'd express appreciation for the many fine folks I'd met and spent time with here. That kind of thing.
Should something happen to me suddenly, whether banned (perish the thought), death or extreme medical condition (ditto to perishing the thought), some close forum friends have my email address and/or cell number.
If I couldn't do so, eventually my family would stumble over a personal text or email and would surely reply to explain my absence.
I recently signed up.If you are still lurking, Rakaia, try 'www.debatepolitics.com'. That's my go-to political forum.
After he said goodbye, then announced he wasn't leaving I tried to PM him and he is no longer in the forum. I know his thread got a little out of hand, but that's sad. I always appreciated his input.

Great! I hope you find it beneficial. It was actually a long-time, well-respected member of this forum who introduced me to it. I've been there since 2023.I recently signed up.

You can't be thin-skinned but then politics is a hot mess these days. It's been educational for me because members who post something newsworthy typically post a link to the claim. I have, several times, started to post something I thought was a fact, looked it up and found out I was wrong.Hmmm, debatepolitics.com looks like it could be a hot mess, yea no?
I posted it originally. If he was going to post about how he was leaving, I see nothing wrong with posting how he has left. It was really to provide him with the link to a political forum in case he was still lurking, so how is that wrong? It was with the best of intentions, regardless of how you interpreted my post.I liked Rakaia's posts - and both being Australian, we often had topics in common. Hope he is back posting soon.
People can take a break from posting -and I think that is often best thing to do when it isnt quite working for you at the present time or you need a little cool down time. Knowing when to disengage is a good thing.
No need for others to post about any individual doing so - and I have been on forums where this is specifically not allowed. For good reason IMO.
Following is a general comment, not about Rakaia or any individual - If one has been a long time member of a forum and decides to leave for whatever reason - what is the best way to do so?
Starting a thread saying so usually leads to arguments and accusations of flouncing, even if one posts it in a positive or neutral or ' it is about me., not the forum' way.
But if one just quietly disappears, there are sometimes threads - Hope so and so is Ok and people are worried
What I have noticed on forums over the years - post a thread saying due to health, personal reasons, family reasons, busy at work etc ie 'something to do with me, not the forum' reasons I am taking a short break from posting
Then either come back or don't - but lets people know you are ok without eliciting negative responses in return.
