Do you know what you are eating?

Just don't start me on PETA, they're bigger con artists than Greenpeace!

But honestly, how many thousands have died from eating gelatine?? Is it worse than Haggis??

My rule of thumb is if it doesn't taste too disgusting, and it doesn't make you sick then eat it.

.... and Phants, don't ever eat in Asia.

I like jello. Anything peta is against I am for. Some animals are on this earth as a food source and many would be extinct if not for their food value.

Dogs and cats exist in great numbers because people value them as pets. Cows, pigs, sheep and chickens are not suited to cuddle on ones lap, hence they owe their existence to the fact that people eat them.

Peta is one of those organizations that seemed to have gone off the deep end with many things, sounding like a bunch of kooks and hurting their cause, IMO. But Rkunsaw, if you've seen the difference between a slaughterhouse that treats the animals humanely, and one where they show the animal no consideration, and actually subject them to undeserved torture, pain and abuse before and during the kill, I don't really think you would say that...at least I hope not. I am a meat eater, but I am against any and all inhumane/abusive treatment of animals whether farm, wildlife or pets.

Me too.

But I think I was happier eating sea food extender thinking it was tripe than wondering if it was a catfish out of the Mekong.

I'll still eat it though, a lot, have been for years. It's great in the fried rice and I buy packets of frozen pieces that turn into fish cocktails when I fry them with tempura batter on 'em.

Let's not get too picky here folks, we could all starve to death if we know too much about our food.

Like I always say, there isn't much you can do to a Saltine cracker.

They really don't have any dangerous elements beside a few preservatives, they're free-range fed and unless you're really creative you can't abuse them before consumption.

Seafood Extender?!? That sounds like a demented Hamburger Helper. Have I also missed out on Escargot Enhancer, Haggis Helper and Tongue Twister? :upset:

I pretty much know what I'm eating - that's why I choose to eat it. Pizza is the worst thing I put in my mouth these days, and only because of all the calories and greasy pepperoni. I no longer eat many foods, at least on a regular basis, but overall the way I look at it is that if I've made it THIS far in life eating what I have then I'm pretty much in the home stretch.

But I will, on general moral and ethical principles, NEVER, EVER touch Seafood Extender - it sounds too much like whale ******.

I have worked on machinery that made Sausages such as Salami, Devon, Strasburg, Black Pudding etc.
If everyone seen this made, the ingredience, being cooked & pushed into the skins, you wouldn't eat anything.:playful:

I must agree with you! There are times when I find our attitudes about food too extraordinary for words.

Humans can eat a lot more than we are led to believe with our supermarkets full of shrink wrapped mushrooms and bright red beef. People are so removed from their food production that many don't understand that milk comes from cows. Would they'd allow their children to starve to death before hunting?

A few months ago I read an article stating that experts, either from the UN or the World Health Organization, suggest we start eating more insects. This makes sense since insects reproduce quickly, are plentiful, require little care, and are packed with protein but I bet the same people who shun eating other mammals will also shun eating perfectly good insects!

Yeah. If they were mashed up without the wings and I didn't know what they were maybe, but all I can think of is all that black 'fluff/scale' that they leave clouds of everywhere. Yuk.

Since the moths looked like mushrooms in the picture above, it didn't gross me out. But watching my favorite show with Anthony Bourdain, I have to look away when he's eating local food in 3rd World countries. Just YUCK at some of the things he eagerly dives into, but love that man & his show!
