What Have You Learned? Senior Wisdom

Sadly youth is wasted on the young. Really...imagine if you knew at even thirty what you know now. It might have been a completely different life eh wot? Share things that you know now. Anything really...serious or silly what would you tell your young self?

Learn a trade THEN you pursue your passion...you can't do crap without a good steady income.

I would have raised my kids like I raised my dogs. No really it doesn't sound like optimal parenting but it is. When the kids were young I didn't understand the discipline thing. I let them get away with far too much. But by the time I became a pup parent I learned. My dogs are spoiled beasts. All day long they get cuddles and yummies when I come into the room. But they obey without question. If they get out of line I'm right on it. If Mommy raises an eyebrow...you stop chasing the cat/get your nose out of the garbage immediately/ get in the house this second. If I had known boundary setting with the human kids it would have been better for everyone concerned.

I've learned so much from being a senior. Patience and endurance are two of my faves. Also I've learned to be a much calmer person even in the midst of distress all around. I've learned to value the simple things while continuing to pursue the finer things. I've learned how to make myself healthier and how to assist others in helping themselves to do the same.

What I have learned is not to be judgmental. I also learned, unfortunately to late, is to enjoy every minute with your kids and let the housework go. I was always cleaning. Sometimes I felt I didn't even have enough time to take them to the park because the house wasn't spotless. What a waste. The kids remember my cleaning and do bring it up once in awhile. What I haven't learned is to stop being so darn sensitive. I'm working on it.lol

Yes the secret is humor...I mean people who have really difficult jobs, the police, medical staff, firefighters, morticians...even as gallows humor it gets you through things. My middle girl used to do this off the wall Dora doll impersonation. If you don't have a special needs kid you'd be totally horrified. But yes we were permitted to laugh...my best memory of that daughter.

Yes, humor is the best remedy, and it doesn't have to be very hilarious either -- it feels good to lighten up.

I kept thinking I'd grow up someday & now I'm thinking it isn't gonna happen. I just keep learning..
One thing though.. A woman once told me this...
" If I knew the last time I had sex was going to be my last time I would have really tried to make it special".
