Ohhh .... you not hear of St. Joseph day? Awww... well... is better if you will make Google search for the information - they will explain much better than I am able to do for you....it is a high religious holiday - but just as much as that, it is a day for honoring and for a lots of very delizioso food! ;) You will do a nice favor for you self if you will read a little bit about it... You welcome. :) From Gia xo

Oy, that I remember the San Gennaro Festival in September
https://www.everfest.com/e/new-york-city-feast-of-san-gennaro-new-york-ny
Really if you appreciate all things Italian set the date! Block upon block upon block of NOMNOMNOM...then when you can't possibly fit anymore in, get something to take home...haven't been there for maybe twenty years but it's something to behold.

Yes! San Gennaro also! Wonderful celebrations..... I not eat all that lovely treats any more - I am a scrawny one and to gain 5 pound look like 20 for me...but I do buy
them to give to my neighbors and family.... I can not resist to share them - they all so beautiful things.... And regular foods - all specatular chefs.. :) If you do go to San Gennaro, enjoy! :)

Me? Oh...haha...... I know... I think I could write a book about my family. Right now, my Uncle Nuno (87 years) is live with us. He move he own self here (it not matter that we know nothing about it I guess) , and he have take a liking for my pink furry slippers. They has no heel on the back so he wear them like flip-flop because they feel nice on he feets...lol.... He walk by me a few minute ago with the slippers and no pants.... he going to kitchen to look for a snack. (he is ware underwares - thank Gawd - but to be honest, they a little too short for him if you understand my drift?) ;) Thanks, vickyNightowl.... (I think?) ;) xo From Gia

I love it...Uncle Nuno...when you go through pics of hubby's family there's Frank, Joseph, and Carmine. The next box are a different Frank, Joseph and Carmine...then in the portraits from the old country yet another Frank, Joseph and Carmine. They got a lot of mileage out of names in those days.

Tony Two-Times from Good Fellas LOL!

I call myself that, because my roommate is hard of hearing and I have to say everything twice.

"I'm goin' to get the paper ... get the paper".

Unless you the mother-in law..." Come in, we have to feed you! Whatsamatta you find one who doesn't eat? JesuGrist get her a plate!!!". My mother in law was convinced I had an eating disorder for a good twenty years.

My grandmother (full Irish) was surprisingly like that.

When I visited she would rub my tummy and start wailing about how Mom didn't feed me enough. She'd then pull out the sugar bowl and have me eat sugar cubes.

Yeah ... thanks, Grandma.

Gia made my heart feel warm. Very happy and generous manners is something not seen so much anymore. I really miss that. I used to have a Sicilian roommate in my youth he and I were totally platonic. He was a mellow dude & his family owned an Italian bakery/restaurant. I used to bartend at this pub and Frank would come in at night sometimes & talk to me. One night this very belligerent drunk went off on me & tried reaching over the counter at me. Frank quietly walked outside while 2 of my regulars were pushing the guy away from me and yelling at the guy. Then I saw Frank come back in. The regulars threw the guy out. Then the guy comes back in yelling " Someone cut ALL my tires!!" I looked at Frank and he smiled at me and winked. He was a great guy lol
Oh I wanted to add here that Frank dated and brought girls over the whole time we lived together. I couldn't get a date to save my neck. It wasn't like Threes Company at all :D

THAT was my father-in-law rest his soul<<<sign of the cross>>>

A cute story many will relate to was when me and hubby were first dating. Early on he asked me to be with him for his Uncle's wedding. Philly, I don't know how much you know about Joisey but there was "The Manor". It was and still is a reception hall that pulls out all the stops. Okay, hubby was every Italian Mom's favorite son. I was Kay in The Godfather.

I had never been to such a wedding in my life. My family used to rent out the VA Hall and serve baked beans. There was the pasta table to begin with. I thought THAT was the food. No that was just the warm-up. His uncle married in his 70's so he went all out. Me and hubby had been together maybe three months...but it was magical...

Of course on the dance floor I can still remember my future mother in law yelling to hubby "Hey, atso...go and get a room!!!" and him giving his biggest smile back. Wasn't that a time? One of those nights I so wish I could visit again.

Most all of my recipe have be adapt so they not high in fat, calorie, sugar, carb.... Mediterranean diet is quite good... fresh fruit and vegetable.... so no - I not say that ever.... (well...okay, may be I say to my son once in a while because I try to make him eat more quantity of healthy food - he is a runner and I feel he is much too lean for the height he have - he pat me on the head and say "yes thank you Mama" and then he do what he wish. :] )

That is what my son is like . He will hug me and say " I love you mom" then do whatever he likes . When he was about 13 he was arguing with me once and his father told him " Don't you know anything about women? Just nod your head while they are talking and say I see.." That made me so mad LOL.gif

Oh boy ...what a nice story! Yes... Frank sound a lots like my brothers... they pick on me all the time when we young - but oh boy, no one is allow to touch me or my sister!... they the first to defend and "fix" a situation. : ] They can be a pain the neck, but also our best defender. :) I am glad that you was have happy memory for those day! xo

Yes!! I understanding that - repeat repeat repeating all the day long .... I have 87 years old Uncle Nuno and 91 years old Auntie Anna living here .... I repeat all day until I has no voice... lol..... While I still saying some thing to them, they interrupt me: "Whaaaat you say? Che sei dice?" haha..... is okay - I not mind.... I will miss them both so very much when they gone - is a small sacrifice to have them still here and enjoy they company... xo :)
