What is it with these lottery nuts?
When its $100,000 jackpot or less there is hardly any waiting in the Lottery tickets line.
Today, at the market, it was out the door and they are buying 20-30 lottery tickets for themselves.
Most in those lines are elderly so now Im thinking "what the hell are they going to do if they won the $586 million bucks?'"

Give me 1 million and Ill happy with it.

I buy a ticket for every drawing. Even if it's only a measly ten million or so. One ticket per drawing no more no less.
I buy them 20 at a time so I don't have to make extra trips to town.

'Nailed it!'

Haven't bought a lottery ticket for years. Used to. Got over it. 3 weeks running of not having any of my numbers at all being drawn finished me.
Prior to that I picked 6 winning numbers in Lotto. yeeehaaa eh? unfortunately 2 were supplementary numbers and I 'won' the grand sum of 74 bucks.

As Davey said,
Im thinking "what the hell are they going to do if they won the $586 million bucks?"

When I couldn't think of a damned thing that would improve my life that couldn't be accomplished with a tiny fraction of the jackpot on offer I stopped bothering. Don't need it, but there's a bigger reason I don't buy 'em. I would be sooo stressed to think I had all that money and nothing to spend it on that it would drive me nuts!

It's against my nature to waste money. I'll use it shamelessly to buy an advantage, but wasting it would just distress me.
There are people I know, and know of, who I would gladly bestow riches upon but not so much that they lose their own purpose in life.

All my contented leisure time on the net would be taken up by worrying about and researching which charity or person is most worthy.
I'd have to employ all manner of financial gurus to manage the donations, scholarships, trusts etc and then grow ulcers worrying that the bastards were embezzling the money. I'd eat like a Chinese Emperor to compensate and look like Jabba the Hutt in no time!

My life would be HELL! I would never again feel gratitude for a kindness, as suspicion of hidden agenda would always be there. I'm already cynical and mistrustful, could you imagine what a can of worms I'd be if I had millions that I'd presume everyone else was trying to get from me?

That's no way to live. 'Careful what you wish for.'

My brother in law won $1,000,000 in Tatts Lotto about 20 years ago.

Given that he was broke at the time, it came in handy but as they say - "A fool and his money..."

We buy them occasionally; if we're lucky, one number matches. Hmm...what wouldn't I do with that money. Find a good naturopath; pass some to the kids; family members; give some to charity.
I'd be like Di tho, and wonder how come all these old friends who haven't called in years suddenly wonder how I'm doing. Naw; that's too obvious. ;)

I'll take the chance on winning, tho - cross the other bridges when I get to them.

Supposedly here in Pennsylvania a portion of the proceeds from the ticket sales go to "benefit senior citizens".

My question was always, "Benefit them HOW?"

The official answer is that $0.40 of every dollar goes to senior programs, $0.50 to prizes, $0.07 to the vendor and only $0.03 to administration.

BS, says I. Not in the mood to do it again, but a few years ago I researched ticket sales vs. prize amounts vs. admin costs during a certain time period and the numbers were nowhere near what they claim.

Supposedly programs such as prescription drug assistance, transportation discounts and rent allowances are totally funded by the lottery, but there too there have been many fraudulent claims over the years.

I'll give my money to Nicky the Nose to bet on Grandma's Bloomers in the 8th at Aqueduct before I buy another lottery ticket here.

We used to get 'special' lotteries that were really thinly disguised levees to cover government overexpenditure. We had the Opera House Lottery to supposedly fund building that pointy white elephant. We all fell over ourselves buying tickets and blowing circuits in their revenue tills and it still blew the budget.

Ordinary lotteries were supposed to fund health services. No idea if they really did but health services back then weren't half as bad as now so maybe that was better than lumping them in with 'consolidated revenue.' Duzzen madder, I don't buy 'em now anyway.

I also don't understand the thinking that if one ticket gives you a chance, then 100 tickets will improve your odds 100%.

Not quite, especially when it comes to a half-billion-dollar jackpot.

I understand it's a dream - I dream myself - but my dreams have at least a tenuous connection to reality. Watching the same people who eat cat food from a tin shell out hundreds of dollars for their one chance in several billion is just too hard to do. It proves once again that you can rob more with a pen than with a gun.

I like the reasoning of those who have sussed that most people pick birthdates for their numbers. So the smarties pick the high numbers over 31 because there'll be statistically less winners with those numbers and their share of the jackpot will be bigger. Except, what are the odds that only all high numbers will be drawn?

Thanks for the trouble you took Jilly but I'd want something a bit more solid (and wider) than that under me. I'd be scared to death that would tip over. Whoever uses it must be an adrenalin junky. Or at least only use it on flat strait terrain. They recommend those for getting around a house but not for outdoors so much.

Lurrve the chrome though.

I wonder how much those robot Google dawgs are? It'd be fun watching someone trying to ride one of them. You heard it here first folks, next casualty ward fad after planking.

Had that first one on my watch list Phants. Melbourne shipping costs are a worry but looks a good unit.

If I start buying Lotto tickets again I'd really like this one on that other link. Vrooooom, and nice big wheels, I could get down to the river in that and go fishing again.... sorry, daydreaming.

Jilly: Here's the one you posted, it's on Phant's link too. Looks a tad too 'Bikie' for me, don't want the cops raiding my unit.

I`d never win the lottery or lotto.. don`t buy tickets hardly ever only the one occasion.. not that much cash to waste any way
with all our bills and trying to manage and pay rent as well.. but If I ever did win lotto or the lottery with a ticket I had bought I`d sure
help my stepsister and some others who had lost their homes in the bush fires.. last night I had some news from Jan who lived in Winmalee
in Blue mountains fires in Yellow Rock area and she told me they lost everything .. their home.. university degrees..and diplomas everything gone..
but you know Jan said at least we are all safe and have each other... she must have been devastated and only just now were able to answer all
her mail.. not insured either.. gee surely any one who lives in areas like that , it should be no 1 priority.. with all their top university education and
studies they didn`t have their home insured nor contents .. just a shame... and we are not in any position ourselves to help them.. financially that is..
so life is tough for some..

I don't understand how people live without home owners insurance either, if they can get it.
In the states it's the same way ... every time there is a disaster .. fire, floods, major storms .... there are people on the news left with nothing, and saying they have no insurance coverage. Even business properties aren't covered for many. ??
It's a HUGE expense to have insurance on everything and I know I moan yearly over the bill I get .(and it keeps going up every year!) .. but can't imagine doing without the protection, and sanity it saves..

IMO home insurance should be compulsory for anyone who lives in fire or flood prone areas, and houses not up to standard to resist storm damage likewise. I'm a little tired of the people who don't take responsibility for themselves getting all the sympathy and handouts and those who have paid dearly for premiums are left to the mercies of the insurance companies.
