Which favourite childhood food have you not eaten in years?

Funny how one person's pleasure can be another person's pain, LOL!!!

When I was sick milk toast was supposed to make me better, I could never eat it due to the soggy texture and that always made them think I was so sick I couldn't eat! The truth was I just couldn't eat that, LOL!!!

I totally agree! Why in the heck was it thought that that stuff would make you feel better? Even if I wasn`t sick before, eating that would make me so lol.

I've recently been revisiting spam(chopped) with a recipe that involves shredded cabbage, some olive oil, a frying pan, some diced onion, a few shakes of course ground pepper, and a blop of minced garlic.

Of course, a spam sandwich on bread(or toast) + mayonnaise, adding a slice of onion, and/or a slice of [your choice] cheese...is just the best.

Spam & grits! Loving life.

OMG. Lots. Hotdogs, hamburgers, french fries, potato chips, donuts, Danish pastry, fried clams, French fried onion rings. The list goes on and on.

My grandmothers peach dumplings. She made these in the summertime when we had our peach trees. Somehow she would wrap a perfectly ripe, peeled, peach around dough, simmer it until the peach was soft. Drained them, and put tons of melted butter and cinnamon on top. I tried in later years to make this, but couldn't get that slippery dough to stay around the peach. I ended up cooking it separately. It just wasn't the same. Also, this time of year my mom made a fruit cake that was actually good. The name was war fruit cake.. It had no eggs in it. I guess they rationed eggs during that war. Very moist and gooey. She bought the candied fruit separately, not the dried up stuff that is already mixed, so it would have lots of cherries and candied pineapple in it along with nice dark raisins.

I adored raw rhubarb, so my grandmother gave me my own plant (she wanted to protect her rhubarb plants from me), Haven't touched the raw stuff in 60 years. I still like it cooked though.

Potato pancakes. Fried until brown and crispy, we all loved them.

Me too Carla, my mother used to make potato pancakes and serve them with a mix of sour cream and cottage cheese, I loved them, brown and crispy too! I'd love to have some of them right now! :D

My grandmother (from Eastern Europe) made those but with plums. Talk about fond memories. I've never tried making those dumplings, know I could never come close. Also, her apple strudel, have never had any close to hers.

can't beat a rhubarb tart or crumble with lashings of custard.
