When I was sick milk toast was supposed to make me better, I could never eat it due to the soggy texture and that always made them think I was so sick I couldn't eat! The truth was I just couldn't eat that, LOL!!!

Potato pancakes. Fried until brown and crispy, we all loved them.
My grandmothers peach dumplings. She made these in the summertime when we had our peach trees. Somehow she would wrap a perfectly ripe, peeled, peach around dough, simmer it until the peach was soft. Drained them, and put tons of melted butter and cinnamon on top. I tried in later years to make this, but couldn't get that slippery dough to stay around the peach. I ended up cooking it separately. It just wasn't the same. Also, this time of year my mom made a fruit cake that was actually good. The name was war fruit cake.. It had no eggs in it. I guess they rationed eggs during that war. Very moist and gooey. She bought the candied fruit separately, not the dried up stuff that is already mixed, so it would have lots of cherries and candied pineapple in it along with nice dark raisins.
I adored raw rhubarb, so my grandmother gave me my own plant (she wanted to protect her rhubarb plants from me), Haven't touched the raw stuff in 60 years. I still like it cooked though.
I haven't had that for years either. But I've got to get some canned corned beef when shopping tomorrow!!Homemade corned beef hash made from the canned corned beef with onions and sometimes diced potatoes.
