Sitcom Characters You Can't Stand

1: The most objectionable Sitcom character I can think of is Gilligan, of Gilligan's Island, played by Bob Denver.

I rarely ever watch those episodes simply because Gilligan is in them.

He is a Skinny, Scatterbrained, Accident-Prone Jerk, and I realize he is portrayed this way for the show's comedy content.

2: Another character not much better is Deputy Sheriff Barney Fife on the Andy Griffith Show.

I know he's in it for the laughs too, but he still disgusts me, because he's so thin and is such a know-it-all until he falls on his face.

He's so incompetent that Sherrif Andy Taylor will not let him have more than one cartridge for his revolver, which he always misfires anyway.

What a jerk!

You gotta be kidding me!

Don Knotts made that show!

Gilligans Island. They were all dumb as far as I can determine. However it was entertaining and you didn't have to strain the brain to figure out the plot.

Hey Trade,

Yes, I'm aware that Don Knotts made that show. He got the great majority of the laughs.

I still find him disgusting! How can that attractive girlfriend of his find anything to like in that chicken-chested, whining, bumbling fool?

Me thinks thou doth protest to much. IOW; WTF is it to you that he doesn't appeal to you?

I've realized, over years of self reflection, that Andy Taylor was my father figure / role model. His acceptance and tolerance of Barney is one of the things I admire about him.

BTW, I liked Don Knotts better as Barney than as the landlord on Three's Company.

Charles Emerson Winchester the third........ he thought he made a mistake once, but he was wrong... did that count?
Yes, yes!!! I almost forgot about him. Pompous know-it-all. Which is the role he played well.

Ted Baxter, MTM show. Too self-centered and silly to be believed (or at least I thought so, until I started getting out more. ;) )

For current sitcom characters - it'd be much easier for me to list the ones I can stand.
I can only name one off the top of my head; Judd Hirsh on Superior Doughnuts, but I don't consider it a comedy.
I don't mind that most of the characters are unique, but they all are so dam extreme at each quirk that makes them total fakes.

One character I did not like on the Andy Griffith show was Ernest T. Bass. He was just annoying.

I've never seen that show, but I liked Judd Hirsh's character on Taxi. He was a pretty good straight man.

Sheldon Cooper - Big Bang Theory

I loved ALL the characters in MASH, well maybe not Major Burns so much. I especially loved Pierce and Klinger. When we were stationed overseas and MASH came on AFN, there wasn't another sound over the whole installation; everybody was watching that show.

Jerry Seinfeld on Friends. Gaaaaah. Love Kramer. Don't like the show. I tend to feel homicidal. Bad therapissed!

I love the show Seinfeld, every single character.....except Newman!

I loved Mr. & Mrs. Seinfeld(Jerry's parents) Especially Liz Sheridan, Jerry's mom....and of course Elaine.

Uncle Leo! I loved him, he was the best!

The Nanny, Fran somebody, that accent!!!
And I'm a born and raised NYer.
Martin Moll,he played Rosesannes boss and Tom Arnold, same show.

I enjoyed a lot of sitcoms over the years but in most of them there was a character on the show that annoyed me. The King of Queens ~Jerry Stiller got on my nerves but I continued to watch the show.
Then Maude ~Bea Arthur I enjoyed even though I didn't care for Bea.
The only one I never watched often was Roseanne ~ Roseanne Barr, because she really got on my nerves so I wouldn't watch it at all.

I really enjoyed Sienfeld and I liked his mother. I saw pictures of her when she was young. She was Beautiful and they even said she had an affair with James Dean.

I heard about that affair with James Dean, she wrote a book about it: Dizzy & Jimmy: My Life with James Dean: A Love Story .

Well, I guess I dragged this thread a bit off topic, was supposed to be about Sitcom-Characters-You-Can-t-Stand .

Uh, I did mention Newman in Seinfeld, Mr. Drysdale, the banker in Beverly Hillbillies was a scoundrel, didn't like him. Nobody liked Ted Baxter in Mary Tyler-Moore.

There have been so many horrible sitcoms over the last 50 years, where do I begin;
How about Mindy's father on Mork and Mindy,I disliked Fester, OMG the entire cast of Mr. Ed,
I always thought Mr. French was kind of creepy.
I am an aficionado of television and there has been some absolutely fantastic entertainment presented, but there have been a lot of sinkers.
