Jerry Lewis

Slapstick is SOOOO dated.

Did anyone ever see the 2002 TV movie "Martin and Lewis"? Jeremy Northam played Dino and Sean Hayes was Jerry.

I've heard rumors that Lewis was difficult to interview giving monosyllabic replies to questions, then would suddenly terminate the session.

I saw that movie; it was pretty good.

I only heard of one instance where, for whatever reason, Jerry was diffucult and rude:

For us, the audience, we assume what is on stage, is what those people are really like. There was a woman, who played a very warm, loving mother. She was an icon of tolerance, and seeing the humanity in all. She stayed at the hotel, where I worked. She was a loud, obnoxious, forever complaining woman. When she left, the management told her that they would NEVER accept another reservation from her. We don't understand that they live in a make -believe world, and what we know about them is make-believe.

I never liked Jerry Lewis. I think he could be very mean when he wanted to. I loved Dean Martin. I still listen to many of his songs. I read that he wasn't the most loving Father either. You never know what goes on behind closed doors.

I understand Lewis was not a very nice man... Never acknowledged his illegitimate daughter even though she is the spitting image of him.

Disinherited his 5 children by his first marriage. His second wife and their adopted daughter got everything. I didn't care for Lewis but really liked his old partner, Dean Martin. http://pagesix.com/2017/09/22/jerry-lewis-will-leaves-nothing-to-all-but-one-of-his-children/

I hadn't heard that. That really stinks.
I believe whatever a person owns is up to them to decide what to do with it, but it's still downright cruel to disinherit kids unless there's a really serious reason for it.
The jerk sounds like Joan Crawford.

I do know that Lewis's version of the Martin/Lewis duo changed. At first, it was just happen stance. After, the break up, the story began to change. Lewis rescued Martin's failing career. Finally, Martin was incorrigible alcoholic, whose failed career was rescued by Lewis. And Lewis got Martin off alcohol. And immediately after the break up, Martin lapsed back into complete alcoholism.
Entertainers from this era lived and died by their image. Nobody used their real names. They had fake biographies. The only thing that mattered was their image on the screen.

His slapstick has never appealed to me, only saw him on his telethons...and that was admirable. I've read from so many sources that he could be a real jerk. Leaving his sons out of his will proves that further.

I agree, Terry, I liked Dean Martin's charming personality.

I can't understand how Dino could put up with that SOB for so long.

Lewis had no real talent except for his rubber face. His only saving grace was his telethons for kids.

Other than THAT, He was a big nothing, IMO

I never cared for Jerry Lewis, and when we would see him on Tv with Dean Martin my Mom would keep yelling for him to be quiet and let Dean Martin sing. Dean was the best. What Jerry did to his children was heartless.

When I was about 10 years old, I thought he was hilarious. As the years went by, and I learned more about him, I got to like him less and less.
