Call and find out to whom your doctor can send a statement about your health. They don't want people on jury duty who have your problems any more than you want to be there.

There is a provision for excuse if you are over 75 and so 'll fill out the necessary form for that. The medical excuse means asking one of my doctors to fill out other forms which is a pain. You would think they would know at my age I am not a good jury candidate. I served many times in years gone by, once for 5 weeks on a murder trial.

Here in Dallas County there is an age limit and someone of your age would be exempt.
Read the jury summons... and it should tell you how to get an exemption.

If you got it by regular mail and didn't have to sign for it (Registered Mail),

Then, throw it away and DENY that you received it ! Nobody can PROVE that.

But, IF you HAD to sign for it, then you're "Up the creek" and HAVE to go. IF not it's

considered contempt of court and THAT means....ONE NIGHT in the slammer!

Sometimes that might not be a bad experience but it would always be on your record.

Think it over Jim Good luck.

(There is NO age limit here!!! You could be 135 years old and you'd still have to go !)

A few years back when my hubby was having heart problems I was called. I couldn't leave him alone at that time and wrote a letter explaining the situation. I figured I'd hit them up for a permanent exemption. I received a letter saying it was granted. Personally I have no interest in serving at all and with my bad knees they would have to pry me out of the chair at the end of the day. What I don't understand is that so many people who would love to serve never get called. When this subject comes up in a gathering so many people mention this. At least they should allow a person you might know to go in your place.

All of my regular mail (not junk) is scanned. I get a daily notice of the mail I will be receiving that day.

Kind of hard to pretend now.

Being a single lady in a big city, I never answer the door and never sign for anything I am not expecting.

However late one night someone was at my door. Any other time I would never had answered the door especially at night.
But for some reason, something told me to answer the door... so I made that one exception. There at my door was the
age 95 little old lady who lived down the street. She was wearing her bedclothes and yellow high top sneakers and was
decked out with ALL her jewelry... several necklaces, several bracelets and rings on every finger. I figured she was senile
so I took my flashlight and walked her back home [one family member had left her before another one had arrived and she
had been left alone.] She didn't know me and had never been to my house before. But it was fate she came to my house.
Ironically, my job was working with the mentally disabled.

What ?

Scanned ?

Please explain that further ??

I began renting a PO Box decades ago because my ex used to steal my mail...
so I hardly ever get anything important at my home address.

Every day I get a copy of the mail I will be receiving that day. It is obviously processed through some kind of scanner because I get an actual copy.

It's a service I get through USPS, and I have to say I appreciate it. If I know I'm getting something important, I watch more closely.

That's interesting. Did you sign up for that? Do you get a copy via email ??

They sent me an email asking if I would be interested in the service and I signed up for it.

This is what comes to my gmail account. It goes on as many pages as are required.

I like it, but I seem to be one of the few people who are pleased by USPS. They keep me very well informed when I get packages too. Since most of Amazon ships through them, it's a very helpful service.

I think it's a good idea to fill out the form for 75 yrs. of age Jim, that would be the end of duty notices. In Colorado, the age is 70. How was that being on a jury for 5 weeks?

The last time I was summonsed for jury duty I found it hard to stay awake during the preliminary proceedings when they read out all of the charges (4 accused armed robbers with multiple offenses) and then the list of witnesses to be called. Fortunately I was not selected for the jury. My number was not even called. Since then I have asked to be excused on the basis of age. I would have been 70 at the time. I am now permanently excused.

I post this because falling asleep easily ought to be an excuse anyone our age could use.

It was interesting and my company paid my regular salary but driving downtown and finding parking was not great. That was 40+ years ago.

The last time I was called it was for an afternoon session, when I got there they said we where all excused as they got the needed juries at the morning session.
