Which "Recent revelations and disclosures" are you referring to? Are you thinking about Cable news, or Network news?

I haven't noticed any changes either. They waste so much air time going over the same picayune stories. And we miss so many other headline news items that are new and worthy of news coverage.

I missed the revelations and disclosures, although that is not surprising. I tend to ignore anything that is reported by anyone. I'm at a point that I don't feel I can believe anything that is reported and only about half of what I see.

We have evolved from a union of people that were searching for news from across our land and world to a union of people that have access to instant news from across the world, at our fingertips, but find that the news releases and analysis are tainted with fake and fabricated articles, analysis and news releases from folks with alternative motives or goals.

I'm not sure we have accomplished anything in this world of instant news and information.

The news media...especially the TV news...has become little more than a "business" whose primary purpose is to make money. The cable news networks have become little more than a venue for the "talking heads" to spout their various political agenda's. This past Winter, I timed the network evening news...ABC, NBC, CBS, and on average they gave 17 minutes of news, and 13 minutes of commercials...mostly that Ask your Doctor Crap. Then, there are those who rely on Facebook and Twitter for their news....it's no wonder that so many of our people are losing touch with reality.

Started losing faith in the news since watching Frank Reynolds try to cry on the air.
I think it was the 70s or 80s

It’s funny, watching fake crying.
There’s most always a tell, showing effort…effort to cry.
Genuine crying has somewhat the same effort…..to not cry.
His was especially sickening, faking effort to not cry
For me, that’s when the news became less than while trying to be more than.

Today?

Can’t

Lost interest since Tom Brokaw retired

Loved hearing him pronounce his own name

.

TV "news" networks are filled with political propaganda and social engineering.

.
Ain't that the truth!

I won't even watch some of 'em. They have lost their way and are abusing the freedom of the press. Many of them are agenda driven, propaganda machines that are brainwashing their viewers such that too many people are basically reduced to morons on anything associated with their agenda(s)... might as well be our worst enemy broadcasting their message non-stop directly in to our homes with the purpose of creating internal hatred and strive.

I've also noticed more and more that the news is used to promote other television programs like Dateline, 60 Minutes, etc...

The items always start off as news and end up as a teaser/commercial for an upcoming program.

I miss "Uncle Walter" and Huntly Brinkley. Good night Chet, Goodnight Dave. Who can forget Cronkite choking back real emotion when he told us JFK had died?

Many years ago (before TV) some guy (H.G. Welles Maybe) broadcast a program about "Martians" INVADING !!!

OMG !!! Many folks were running scared, calling the police etc.

My Father changed radio stations. ALL of the other stations were continuing with their regular programming.

Thanking my Father for "Fathering ME !!

That would have been " Orson Wells" "War of the Worlds" on the radio-----I remember it.

You're CORRECT Lon. (I sometimes I get things mixed up; ie- dates, names, why I entered this room, wedding anniversaries, what I had for breakfast etc. Getting old is getting to be a pain in the a$$ !

You're both correct. "War of the Worlds" was originally written by H.G. Wells. The scary broadcast was presented by Orson Welles.

To this day it is still hard to believe that so many were 'duped' by that broadcast. My dad & the people he was with , did as someone else noted. Started changing the radio station & quickly realized it was a 'special' broadcast . But as in so many cases, even today...people hear 'just-a-bit' and run with it.

Someone I talked to about it said that given the times [depression era] many folks just assumed that the "news" would only get worse. And lets face it a martian invasion pretty much does it....:)

No offense, but you were actually alive at that time?!! I recall my aunt mentioning it to me, and she was born in 1915!
