How to get them out? They are safe [for now] in good health , but due to the water level now in the cave it would involve scuba 'skills' to get them out. [not sure i understand that]?

The current thought is to keep them in there until OCTOBER ! when the rain/flood season is over. Then walk/climb out.

Sounds like a screwy plan too me , but I'm no spelunker so?

I heard on the news that they could not swim. Also the cave they entered was off limits and their guide lead them around the barred off opening. He should be in a lot of trouble and would be with me if one of those kids were mine. Also my child would know how to swim so he could be trained by the Seals there to get out. Don't know how much of it is true about them being able to swim. It was a question addressed by GMA this morning. Someone asked one of the Seals if the kids could swim and he said no. So I don't know if it is true or not.

It was Very Stupid for them to enter this cave, in the first place...especially this time of year. I spent 1967 in Thailand, and they have Two seasons....Hot and Wet, and Hot and Dry. This time of year, that area has huge amounts of rainfall, and low lying areas...and Caves...could easily flood. The longer they stay in this cave, the more likely another huge rain will hit, and they will be in even deeper trouble.

There is so much to be said about this-the boys looked terribly thin to me-after all they were thin to begin with and then went several days without any food, they are living on damp wet muddy ground, no sunlight-urinating (etc) in the spot they are living at, have not had clean water to drink in several days. It seems to me that the rescuers could swim to them and one by one bring them out with floats (etc) if not small boats.....I of course do not know the details...I hope the delay is not a publicity agenda at the boys expense (suffer). It's really not over until all boys are out of there and home with their families.

As I understand it, it's not a matter of "swimming" out, but that they have to be under water for a lengthy time in treacherous currents that are extremely dangerous.

I was glad to hear that they found them. The news report I saw said they were thinking of creating another entrance into the cave. I imagine that would have to be done extra carefully so as not to cause a collapse. Their coach should definitely be in big trouble if he led them through a restricted area. Also it's amazing to me that they all survived in that heat without food but humans can live awhile as long as we have water. I sure hope this rescue mission goes well and as quickly as humanly possible.

The latest news here is that they are going
to teach all the boys how to swim, then they
are going to teach them how to Scuba Dive,
then they have a 3 mile, I think, swim under
the water and underground.

If not they will have to wait 4 Months to get
out after the rainy season.

Mike.

Just saw the latest news. The boys are safe, and they have a doctor with them now who is treating them for injuries and they are very thin through lack of food...food is being sent into them asap.... but the experts are saying that it may nigh be impossible to teach them to dive to be able to allow them to get out , if theyy CAN manage to teach them, then they will only be able to free one at a time..or like the Cptn said they will have to remain there for the next 4 months

And this is all over some dumb initiation to write their name on a wall inside the cave and get out before waters rose, led by a supposed adult.

The "Adult", is only in his early 20s, not much older
than the boys that he is in charge of.

The news just reported that a former Thai Navy Seal has died while being involved in the rescue operation.

I heard that last night Ike, very sad, doesn't give much hope for the boys to be safely rescued. I hope they come up with a solution to get them out of there. Rest in peace.

Now the weather reports for SE Asia are calling for another round of heavy rains this coming week. That will negate any progress the rescuers have made in recent days. It is usually about October when that region begins to dry out, and it may take that long to get these kids out...IF they can survive that long. I am amazed that people who have lived in that area all their lives failed to recognize the risks in going into a cave during the rainy season.

How sad! How terribly sad that this hero lost his life trying to save the boys. This whole situation upsets me so much.

I remember when those guys were trapped in a mine in Chile and how they put each one into a cylinder and pulled them out.

Here we have a monsoon season and flash flooding causes ditches and the arroyo drainage system to become deep and fast running. Despite years of "ditches are deadly -- stay out!" advertising and strong warnings to the public and in schools, every year people drown in them. A very few of them are accidents; most of them are young males seeking adventure or on a dare who think they are strong enough to swim to safety. They aren't, and rescue people have to risk their own lives trying to get to them.

As of this minute they have rescued 4 boys and another 2 are on their way out.
Two of these have been ambulanced to hospital.
The rescue seems to be going well and is ahead of schedule..

Rescuers were afraid that the monsoon would flood the cave so they started swimming the boys out.....**update** so far five have now made the six hour journey to the surface.

Thanks for the update Ike, that's great! Hoping they can get the rest of them out to safety. From your article:
