Batten down the hatches-cylone lusi bearing down

NZ is battening down the hatches preparing for cyclone Lusi that is bearing down from the North this afternoon. What a weekend of wild weather it's going to be. It's certainly the calm before the storm at the moment, not a breath of wind, it all feels so eerie.

Deadly Cyclone Lusi has moved out of the tropics this morning and is now approaching northern New Zealand, MetService says.
Cyclone Lusi is expected to move southwards today, bringing widespread heavy rain and easterly gales to the North Island from tonight, and the upper South Island during Saturday.
MetService's Dan Corbett says the cyclone, which has killed at least three people in Vanuatu, is now around a category 2 and as the storm moves into the cooler waters which surround New Zealand it will "slowly start to weaken".
"But she's a big old beast, she's wound herself up, and it's all that tropical moisture combined with the wind and rain that are going to provide us with those potential risks for the severe weather over the weekend."

Oh wow, yes, batten down the hatches and keep us posted as much as possible! I'm such a freak I would be so danged excited!! I sure hate hearing about people being hurt or killed, or property being destroyed though. Stay safe as possibe!!

Scary stuff Fern! Hope you and everyone else there stays safe and survives this intense weather. Please keep us updated.

New Zealand, beautiful one day, terrifying the next.

Stay safe, Fern.

I can't imagine but there are places on this Earth I would love the chance to experience;) My best bud from highschool has live on Oahu since 81 or so but I don't know how much "weather" they have seen. Sad but we haven't stayed in close touch.

Hi all, back on deck, thanks for your concerns. Our area missed the worst of it, we got the gales but little rain, not so good for the north of the country, they didn't fare so well. I haven't heard how the South Island was affected, hopefully poor old Christchurch doesn't get flooded out again.

Glad to hear from you Fern. Thought about you yesterday but like the air-head I am, spaced looking your thread up to see how it came out. Just glad you are aok;)

The destruction can be devastating and I'm hoping you are safe. But, you see . . . well, those storms create this:
