The Royal Tensions in the Palace.

The Sticks, Northeast PA.
I'm not up on the Royal stuff. I have a hard time figuring out who is married to whom, and who had the recent baby. But apparently, there's Royal snubbing going on. My girlfriend would know the intimate details of this ruckus, as told by "Palace Insiders". I am obviously ill informed and may not have the correct amount of interest. What is the current situation about? Why do the Royals and their spats fixate us Americans?

Do you have any actual evidence of these things, other than circulation boosting media speculation?

The biggest rift, a sixty year one between Prince Philip and his mother on law, ended when she died.
 
Who knows... we all only know what the media tells us.. Always an ''Insider'' never a specific name ..

You can be sure that whatever is going on, they will not be allowed to show it in public, not while our Queen is alive at least!!!

I don't think strong feelings is quite accurate, but I know what you mean. It's just fascination with gossip, imo.

Lots of Americans, like people anywhere, are star struck and fascinated with celebrities at large. This monarchy is "a celebrity" to us.

Because of their amazing history, I am also interested in the monarchy and some gossip about some of their comings and goings make me laugh. The British press makes a big deal out of nothing to sell papers and we Americans who are "watchers" get caught up in it.

At least many of those royals actually do some good work. Not like those Kardashians we turned into celebrities for no reason at all.

I don't understand why those that do, follow them at all? They're just paid celebrities . I don't remember it being such a big deal, before Diana ?
 
I don't know too many Americans who are fixated on the Royal Family. Mildly interested, maybe. They provide an interesting diversion from real life.

Right now, I'm tremendously enjoying the "Victoria" series, streaming on Prime. I have no idea how realistic that is, but it certainly makes entertaining viewing. The actress playing Victoria is gorgeous and a good
actress, but the actor playing Albert has a very dubious German accent.

Same here, I don't know ANY who are fixated. Some were interested in the wedding(s) but most Americans don't keep up with the Royals on a regular basis.

I can help answer that last question. Colonial America was ruled by the British Crown and many Americans [like me] are descended from British immigrants who were Royalists. During the American Revolutionary War many Americans fought for their King. Culturally, Americans are raised on European fairy tales about kings and knights in shining armor. And almost every little American girl wants to be a princess who will meet her Prince Charming.

Harry's never happier than when he's leading his troop against a fortified position.

Not being allowed to do so makes him very frustrated.

It seems that Megan has persuaded him to give up caffeine and alcohol, and I shall be surprised if that doesn't end in tears. She obviously doesn't understand the military psyche.

The last thing that boy wants in his life is another controlling female. He had enough of that from his mother.

Some Americans preffered to remain with Britain and went to what is now Canada. They were called the United Empire Loyalists.

And yet we fought a war to get away from them.......I don't see the reason to stay fixated at the royal level ?

The majority of early colonists fought to get away from a king's rule, taxation without representation and to be free from a family-driven monarchy that didn't allow voting for their leader or a government by the people . They still had loved ones there.

It's just celebrity gossip, now. Like reruns of "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous".
 
To me it's a passing interest where i'm not at all fixated on the goings-on in the Royal Family. I don't go looking for news about them, but will take a notice if it's there where I'm watching or reading. One big positive though about that topic, is that there's no politics involved. Just a lot of nosiness about how some people live.

I was speaking in general... not specifically about Prince Harry.

But speaking of Harry... it's weird he would go from wearing a Nazi uniform to marrying a half-black. Confused fellow, that one.

From classic European fairy tales to modern Disney movies [last night I watched Disney's recent re-make of Cinderella] most American girls dream of being a princess.

"Princess" is a major theme at little American girl's birthday parties. My niece married a Brit... so my little grandniece is really into the princess theme.

And, it's not just LITTLE American girls... becoming a "princess" was also a big theme with last Christmas Hallmark movies.
