New phone scam

Now people claiming to be from AT&T are calling to tell and sell
entertainment deals. They are not from AT&T.

As a lifelong satisfied customer, I know that
AT&T does not call people at home. They send letters.
Also they use 800 numbers, not a local number, though
caller ID says ATT.

I told the man to get an honest job and hung up,
 

Our house phones tell us (audibly) who's calling. If it isn't a name we recognize, we just ignore the call. If it's important, they leave a message and we call them back. That virtually NEVER happens. Pretty simple really.

 

I heard of another type of scam. I'm not phone tech savvy, but I heard this about answering rob calls. The phone rings, and if you answer with the word "yes", that could be recorded, and used to open up parts of messages, assuming that you are voice protected or something.
I don't know if this is true or not.
 
I am enjoying the blessed silence since I removed my land line. I suppose the robocalls will eventually catch up with my cell phone number, but it hasn't happened yet. It's just like the good old days... when the phone rings,
it's really someone I want to talk to!

Oh, It's happened to me Sunny. Again, when you see the number if it's one you don't recognize, just don't pick up. Please everyone. protect yourself and your personal information. They DO call you on your cell too.

If they are not on my contact info, I do not answer. If they are calling from a different number they can leave a voicemail..
 
I never answer a call anymore if it isn't from someone I know. I have enough things to do and I don't need to waste my time talking to someone I can't even understand.
 
There's another one going around today. I got a call from some Area Code 855 that I let ring. Some lady left a message that said my MS registration key had expired, and my system would no longer work, and that I should call the number she left to fix the problem. I did a reverse phone lookup on the number and it appears that this call has already gone out to thousands of people today. If you answer the phone, or call the number, there is a good chance that they will gain access to your modem, and install a Trojan or Ransomware. This is another fine example of just Ignore the call...my system is working just fine.
 
Yes, that MS one has been around for a while now. I heard from them periodically when I still had my land line. It's sad, how many people have been taken in by this nonsense. Even when their computers are working just fine, some of them believe the call from Microsoft!
 
I received one yesterday from AT T not AT&T nor ATT. I didn't answer and wouldn't have unless it's someone I know. But, I noticed the space between the two T's immediately.
 
There’s a new scam coming out most everyday. Always someone trying to make a quick buck while the scammers rely on people’s emotions or age. The internet has brought out a whole new breed of crooks.
 
I was gettin 5-6 calls/day from scammers during the XMas holidays. If the number is not in my phone book I just ignore it.
