Anyone else think it's dishonest

The way they are using Jimmy Deans voice to sell his sausages in the TV commercials. He died 8 years ago...

I think it's very odd. Just the other morning, I heard his voice promoting his dead piggy part product, and I wondered how many hearing it even knew he was dead. Yeah, very odd, certainly.

I think it's very odd they are using his voice. I've thought about googling it to make sure he did die like I thought. There are plenty of ways to sell a product without using a dead person's voice as if they are still alive. They could at lest put "And as Jimmy Dean used to say...........". I don't buy his products anyway because they have nitrates and tons of sodium in them.

Given the very nature of the advertising profession - to convince people to buy a product using any means available - it seems perfectly normal to me. Do you recall that ad showing a drop of milk falling into a glass of milk and producing a perfect crown-shaped splash? That was done using Elmer's white glue. Is that dishonest?

Totally agree. They should have an announcer say that line, you suggest, before running Dean's voiceover.

I don't see 'dishonest'. Some people may find it tacky. I'm guessing that 90% of the people hearing the commercial don't know who he is.

I don't know... is there some kind of etiquette rule that requires that a voice used in a commercial must be the voice of a person who is still alive?

Well after all, the product is in his name and he went into the venture willingly and probably profited handsomely back then. It's not like he's now heard selling Buick's, Chevrolet's or hand cream. I see nothing wrong in his voice and picture still being used.

Good old Jimmie - -I liked his entertainment and his sausages whether healthy or not !!

I've thought that way, too, Jim, for some time already. I just never got around to posting about it. It reminds me of that joke about where at someone's wake they got to dancing with the corpse. What kind of money grubber people do things like this? "Such a lovely morning" quoting Jimmy Dean. Well, I hope wherever he is now, that it is a lovely morning. RIP Mr. Dean, as much as they'll let you.

Why not? His estate is probably getting their share of profits, I love the Jimmy Dean Scrambles as they are a breakfast for 2 days for me. I buy one when on sale for a treat. He was a good old country boy that I enjoyed when he was alive. I don't like the Tom Selleck one as its a rip off. But with Jimmy Dean, don't buy it if you don't want it. It reminds me of the days when I visited my mom and I would wake up to her cooking pork chops, eggs and homemade biscuits for breakfast along with hot coffee and her freshly made tea cakes. Those smells told me I was home and safe with family. My mother thought I did not eat enough and made sure when I visited there was a ton of good country food there and enough for me to take home.

I was a bit shocked when I first heard his voice. My thought was why don't they just let him lie in peace. Then I thought maybe he had it written somewhere to use his name and voice to keep the company going.Although like others have mentioned I don't think many know who Jimmy Dean was.
What really freaked me out was when some singers made a video singing with their dead relatives. I think Nat King Coles daughter did it as well as Hank Williams JR. and I think Elvis and his daughter.

I don't like it. It's eerie, and, as someone else said, tacky.
