Hope Springs Eternal

Okay, your turn. What would you like to see happen in 2022 that probably won’t?

1 A policeman...there used to be one on every corner...now they are an endangered species.
2 Juvenile nuisance seen for what it is....the start of a life of crime.
3 Groceries to be delivered in cardboard boxes...I'm snowed under with plastic bags.
4 Someone to invent a power system which eliminates flexes and cables

Wow, great post! These are simply a few wishes, not predictions:
  • The rift in the United States will begin to heal, and people from both sides will come together.
  • Covid will become an Endemic rather than a Pandemic.
  • People in the hospitality and service industry will go back to work.
  • Kindness will replace nastiness in society.
  • Travel will become desirable again.
  • Real estate will become affordable again, especially for young people looking to buy first homes.
  • Homelessness will become less prevalent.
  • Major weather events, like tornadoes, floods, fires, etc. will become more rare.

Maybe "pie in the sky", but I can dream.

Good list, dseag2. Possibly not within one year, but I think all are within the realm of possibility within two to three.

I just watched a video with a pretty smart "predictor" who shares what their "think tank" says will probably happen in 2022. The whole video is filled with predictions and explanations....quite interesting...a little long but worth it. 26 minutes

1. Gas prices up to $3/liter so that everybody with gas guzzling 4X4 trucks or huge SUVs will have to trade to a fuel efficient car.
2. Interest rates for savings up to 10% so that seniors can finally get something for any money they have in the bank.
3. Stores and malls will stop playing that god awful music that sounds like a 12 year old girl screaming.
4. Macdonald and other fast food joints will stop putting flyers in our mailbox telling us that "2 can dine for $12.99."
5. Covid 19 will end and the airlines get their crap together so that frozen Canadians can fly south for the winter and enjoy walking around in shorts and drinking cheap rum.
6. Women will stop using dating sites to look for someone rich like Bill Gates.
7. Men will stop sitting in front of the TV and watch 12 hours of sports each and every day.
8. The government will outlaw telephone messages that promise "You call is important to us" and you will not have to be on the phone for 3 hours talking to different people who all pass you on to other people.

As for your first wish, there seems to be a movement afoot to get people talking calmly without hatred or rancor. I saw this on 60 Minutes the other night and then again on PBS. There are multiple organizations promoting this kind of dialogue.

This year:

  1. People will stop getting tattoos.
  2. Everyone in the US will stop eating so damn much and we will lose a collective 3.3 billion pounds. (That's 330 million times 10 lbs)
  3. People will realize there's not a damn thing they can do about new strains of Covid, and will stop worrying about it.
  4. Volunteering will become a really hip thing to do.
  5. Rock music will make a comeback; "bands" will form in which people play instruments and sing without auto-tuning. These "bands" will play music written primarily by the "band" members.
  6. A new, powerful political party will form, drawing upon the people in middle who can't stand the people on the extremes.

I agree that we're on the verge of a second civil war. A large number of people in the U.S. seem to want to do away with our Constitution and appoint a dictator, and a moronic, corrupt dictator at that!

I find that statement to be completely absurd. Could you find me one person -- one real, live person -- who is quoted as saying that he/she would like to do away with the Constitution and appoint a dictator? No, I didn't think so.

I'll tell you what, Irwin, if at the end of 2022 there is any indication of a civil war, or of a movement to do away with the Constitution, I will send a check for $100 to the charity of your choice.

There was a riot on January 6, 2021. What followed that riot? More riots? Attempts to seize power? Take over the radio and television stations? General civil unrest? No, the answer would be....nothing. Absolutely nothing happened.

About the Constitution:
Quote from the President in the State of the Union address 4-28-2021:
"No amendment to the Constitution is absolute."

Not a "doing away" but Is that a "foot in the door"?

The State of the Union speech is in January, not April.

Just want to point out that this is a clip from Russia Today, a state owned network with a keen interest in destabilizing the West. Also, the same guy from Saxo Bank made 10 "outrageous predictions" for 2021, every single one of which was not just wrong but dead wrong.

From Wikipedia:

"RT has been described as a major propaganda outlet for the Russian government and its foreign policy.[2] Academics, fact-checkers, and news reporters (including some current and former RT reporters) have identified RT as a purveyor of disinformation[43] and conspiracy theories.[49] UK media regulator Ofcom has repeatedly found RT to have breached its rules on impartiality, including multiple instances in which RT broadcast "materially misleading" content.[56]"

Democracy will return to the U.S. Electoral College political system when "winner take all" is banned and Electoral College votes are fairly awarded by percentages. Only two states now (Nebraska and Maine) award votes proportionally. In all others only 51% will get all that states Electoral College votes.

No it is not a foot in the door. No amendment is absolute happens to be true. Just like the Senate makes it's own rules and is not bound by precedent.

I don't know which party that would help or hurt. This link is to a good article that explains why it's time to end "winner take all."
