Just as an aside this is a cheap online news show, where they get hysterical while reading the news... instead of reading it proffesionally.
we've been discussing this here for some years now and more and more we've come to believe especially with the shootings in the US on children by children, that it could eventually happen that children will have to be schooled via Zoom from home... after all how are they supposed to be kept safe.. how are they supposed to recruit new techers when there's a likelihood they'll die for simply trying to give children an education.... I know you know this only too well being a teacher yourself...This is just awful. Whether it be an attack with chemicals or guns or whatever when someone gets injured and especially when it is supposed to be in a safe environment like a school it is not right. It is quite concerning for the girl who got the acid thrown in her face as this will most likely change her life for good and also even for the boy and the staff member who were also injured.
Measures have to be stepped up in someway not only in my country, but in other parts of the world for these senseless attacks to stop. Children and staff need to be able to feel safe in a school environment.
One of the most trying times of my teaching career was during Covid when I had to teach online. Now, I had to teach Kindergarten children so just keeping them still and engaged while on a screen was challenging enough. Though my colleagues who taught the 5th grade told me they had struggles as well. I would definitely not go that route with the Zoom. Plus parents would really have to be involved with their children's learning, especially with the younger students.we've been discussing this here for some years now and more and more we've come to believe especially with the shootings in the US on children by children, that it could eventually happen that children will have to be schooled via Zoom from home... after all how are they supposed to be kept safe.. how are they supposed to recruit new techers when there's a likelihood they'll die for simply trying to give children an education.... apparently this is the weapon of choice in the Indian community..and Westminster has quite a lareg Indian popualtionI'm betting the attacker is a religious fanatic.
Not true that we've had acid attacks in the UK for many years... 2 or 3 that I can recall.. and 2 of those were domestics...I’m a Yank so I may not use the proper terms but it seems that we have heard of acid attacks in the UK for many years.
Like we say if you take away the guns the evil people will use knives, clubs or anything else.
About time we stop concentrating on the type of weapon and start making an example of anyone who performs these kinds of senseless acts.
One thing that I have noticed about these school shooting here in the U.S. is that they are starting to hold parents responsible for the actions of these underaged shooters.
I really hadn’t heard of that many lately but I remember maybe 5 years ago that we saw it stated that acid was becoming the weapon of choice and that thugs threw it in the face of people walking by before robbing them. Not true that we've had acid attacks in the UK for many years... 2 or 3 that I can recall.. and 2 of those were domestics...
You had me worried. I thought you were posting about something that happened in OZ.WTF?

Yes, it's used in India, but much more in Pakistan. Of course the communities of such countries are using these kind of acid attacks abroad also.apparently this is the weapon of choice in the Indian community..and Westminster has quite a lareg Indian popualtion
A few state representatives have tried to get funding to hire more teachers so their schools can reduce classroom sizes to 10 students or less per teacher. Then they tried 15 students or less, then 20 or less. One of the most trying times of my teaching career was during Covid when I had to teach online. As for keeping the students and teachers safe there has to be other methods and I have heard of some radical inner city methods used where each school only uses one entrance and one exit and that has a metal detector with a security officer at that entrance at all times. I don't know if this is the way to go for all school and the cost would be quite a lot, but it could possibly work.
The problem though with that is students could still have weapons just outside of the school on the grounds and, I really have no idea how that could be remedied.
