50 years since moon landing! Or was it a hoax?

I, and several thousand others, worked at KSC from 1966 to 2018. Most, 99+%, of what's been published in reputable media about the space race is factual and true. Yes there was some hyperbole. But not much. Even the rags were included in the news coverage. It was easy time for them because the hand-outs had factual data and all they had to do was regurgitate.
By far the preponderance of the Astronauts, engineers and technicians we're no nonsence types. And as pilots, commanders, and scientists they knew that they were putting their lives on the line during a mission.

well hazeydavey I have to rebutt your posting that armstrong made said 'good luck mr. gorsky' comment.

Any doubts about the veracity of this legend are laid to rest by the NASA transcripts of the Apollo 11 mission, which record no such statement having been made by Armstrong. Armstrong himself said in late 1995 that he first heard the anecdote delivered as a joke by comedian Buddy Hackett in California.

and so another misquote laid to rest!!

But, what about the reported aliens watching them in those gigantic space ships? :yoda:

.

My brother [now retired] was a career NASA scientist at NASA's manned mission center in Houston beginning the year before Apollo 11. He and other NASA scientists were pioneers who created and worked the lunar analysis lab at the Lunar Receiving Building where Apollo astronauts and the lunar samples were first quarantined and analyzed after returning from the moon. My brother even learned how to blow glass so he could make specialty test tubes they needed.

And you are correct. I just thought it was a fun little story and didn't want to let the cat out of the bag if it's true or not.. :)

a show or cover up

There's a good chance they made it and there is probably still classified aspects to those mission hence the production like variables to many of those missions. It could be the 'story' or visuals. The government likes to cover up and put on a good show. It had to be portrayed as quite doable not barely made it did little to nothing.

I'm not 100% on either a hoax or actually made it.

I watched the science channel program about it last night.......much to do about nothing.

They made a semi-sorta big deal about the already well know fact that the U.S.A. welcomed & hired ex-Nazi's [Wernher von Braun] et-al to get our space program 'jump-started'.

And like all those shows, they have these constantly commenting experts, and after every break, they go back 15 [or-so] seconds and repeat as much. In the end they actually say nothing definitive.

So......the debate will continue I suppose.

The production ? direction ? was so poor that. They show they guys arriving at a location in a vehicle, they talk for a few seconds in the vehicle , on the steering wheel plain & simple was the Ford logo. Yet when they exited the vehicle, closed the doors and walked away from it .....it was a Chevrolet Suburban........LOL.
