6 dead in shootings in Kalamazoo Michigan

Try to calm yourself, Annie.
They have him in custody.
I doubt that he has an accomplice.

I know. But these things happening in states other than the one my family lives in is less scary to me. The fact that my 5 year old granddaughter does lockdown drills in school is scary to me.

That's only natural, but the sad fact in 2016 America is that, as I said for years, you are NEVER beyond the reach of violence. People used to tell me, "Oh I live in a gated community", or "I live in the country" - doesn't matter anymore.

Watch, somebody in the media will suggest we start arming kids so they're safe in their schools. I'm sorry Annie and hope your family is out of harms way. But you make such an excellent point about gun violence. No matter if one is pro-gun or anti-gun...

That is exactly why people become almost blasé about almost weekly shootings. If it happens five states away, it is five states away. We've had shootings within blocks of our house. The owner of a store on the main street...steps from the police department got robbed and shot in the stomach last year. So then the surrounding stores put in bullet proof glass and now you have to get buzzed into the nail salon. It's just nuts...

Suspect identified. A recent time stamped report says 8 victims/shot and 6 killed/died. The shooter, apparently an Uber driver(don't ask, in the title) drove around erratically before or during the shooting in his Chevy Equinox. Uber said he passed a background check.

But yes perhaps it's one's best interest if they hear gun shots they need to start thinking where is cover just as much as calling 911. People need to think tactically for themselves. Won't do much in a random out of the blue attack but it might save a few lives and injuries any.

RIP the deceased and speedy recovery to the survivors.

My first thought. This is just so very sad as in all of these instances. I agree with you, at this point, tactical preparation is advantageous for everyone, young and old these days and I don't mean putting guns in the hands of everyone, I just mean, having some sort of a plan in any emergence including crazed attacks like these. Time people get their heads out of the sand and deal with the reality of today as things are now so hopefully more lives will be saved in such mayhem.

We don't want to raise our children to fear and see danger around every corner, but, we do want them to have some knowledge as to possibly have an escape or other safety plan in the event of an emergency, especially, considering how often these things seem to be occurring these days.

No shortage of mentally ill or hate filled people in this world, may the victims rest in peace, my sympathy to the families.
