What a lovely compliment, thank you Patty. There is something of a story behind the bike. About eighteen months before the Covid lockdown I had a hip joint replacement on my left leg. My surgeon warned against any kind of impact exercise, like running or jogging. He did recommend swimming and cycling though.Hey @horseless carriage. Your photos are fabulous of the old railway. Thanks for sharing. You look so stylish riding your bicycle. It’s very much like my husbands ebike only his is a 70 pound ebike. I bought a lighter 47 pound smaller bike and gave him mine. Does your lady ride also? My husband is curious about attaching a basket or designing a wooden box to the front or back of his bike.
He’s a wonderful wood worker so I’m curious what he will come up with. Thanks for sharing with us.
I looked up vintage Phillips bicycle and they ARE well made and worth quite a bit of money. Its sounds like you got quite a deal. What a lovely compliment, thank you Patty. At one of the vintage festivals we like going to was a pre-war bicycle that the vendor was asking a small fortune for. Lucky for me, my lady said that she had seen a bike being sold in one of those charity shops. Later, checking it out, it was about a fifth of the price of the one at the festival. I turned it over and stamped on the frame where the pedal spindle is was the word Phillips and the date. From memory it was June 1926. That's for me.
The frame is designed for the ladies but when you have had a hip replacement such a frame negates the need of trying to lift the rather sore, replacement hip, over the crossbar. It's absolutely ideal and I have since discovered that it is quite a sort after collectable. One trader asked if it had the original Phillips emblem. Oh yes.

He offered me about twice what I had paid, but I like the bike.
He gave me his business card, just in case I ever change my mind.
So now it is part of my ever growing vintage collection. What am I like?
This one was taken here , 10 years ago so I’d been 68 then ….. we don’t do any big hikes now days altho we still walk up to 5 km some days , and still dance cause I’m pushing 80 ….will be in early 2026

Thank you so much @MarkD …interesting the plants in photo number 2 we always called them Black Boys due them growing in arid areas where horrific bush fires go through and blacken then to a mere stump ….but they survived year after year ……however now days with political correctness they are called Grass Trees.
Ill go take a photo soon and post it for you of Grass tree ( spikes ) flowers my hubs made hiking sticks from
they are very light yet as strong as steel ,it would be 20 years ago while hiking up /down / on top of Kings Canyon
in The Northern Territory , which is very steep / high to climb and more importantly to safely walk back down without slipping on marble like tiny rocks , so our G T carved sticks saved us slipping several times
Kings Canyon has 500 very steep steps to climb
Discovery Parks - Kings Canyon
Be back soon with photos of walking / hiking sticks
That’s quite the hike Kadee.Hey @PeppermintPatty. One of our hiking days way way back in 2005 at Kings Canyon

Didnt walk that far @PeppermintPatty …… thats how far it takes to drive ( 16 hours ) from Adelaide to Kings canyonThat’s quite the hike Kadee.
16 hours is a lot of walking.
Today we walked in a subdivision not far from where we live. We know some people who live near there. We walked 4 kilometres.
We walked some vacant lots down near the water. I tried taking pictures of the islands within the water but wasn’t very successful. These lots are nice waterfront lots.

I was, however successful at taking this buck lying down in the grass. It’s not something you see often. It’s hard to tell the age of the buck since they all lose the antlers at the same time each year.

Sorry. I thought maybe you’d done some interior hiking in your younger days. You must have thought I was whacked. lolDidnt walk that far @peppermentpatty thats how far it takes to drive from Adelaide to Kings canyon
The climbing the canyon / hike was about 6 hours
Hubs would say ohh arrr ….those flowers spikes would make good hiking sticks @MarkDYes those grass trees are wonderful but this one is rather runty. In Ojai, midway between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, there is the Taft Botanical Garden which I've only visited once. It isn't focused only on Aussi plants but has many extraordinary plant from all over the world. I took these photos there.

A six hour hike uphill is plenty.
When did you do that?
That is 19 years ago. Ive gained lots of weight also but most of it is from medication I HAVE to take otherwise I will go nuts. Not that I’m not already. LolThat photo is on my iPad and it date stamps the photos itself ….May 2005 I was 68 then , and I when we returned to SA I was told I had diabetes ….shock horror sounding words for me ….i stacked on heaps of weight due to eating way way to many carbs while traveling … ( way to many sandwiches / ect for meals cause it was hard to carry allot of fresh foods ) ….and not enough Walking , so once we moved in our newly built home in July 2006 ….so we traveled from May 2004 when we sold our home in the city ( Adelaide suburbs )
And lived in the caravan till July 2006
I lost 26 kg in weight ….and no sign what so ever of diabetes thank goodness
@ peppermintpatty
Chutney. Isn’t that like a chunkier salsa or type of relish? My husband and I went to a fancy restaurant just outside Algonquin and were served a chutney that was to die for.I make our own tomato chutney from tomatoes we grow @peppermentpatty
Our fruit tress are full of blossom so hopefully we will get heaps of fruit to preserve ( bottle ) as well as drying outside on racks DH made out of screen doors 2 years ago we dried 40 kg ( fresh weight ) of apricots and preserved 30 kg of fresh apricots / plus preserving 30 kg of apples and dried about 25 kg ( apples ) that fresh Weight….. NOT dried weight
Yeah it is …wait I’ll take a photo soon ..I make / made up my own recipe in addition to tomatoes / onions , I add grated apple / capsicums think you call sweet peppers / I add part malt vinegar part white vinegarChutney. You have apricots and apple trees ?
Sweet! We are thinking of buying some type of fruit tree. We live in a zone 6. Any ideas?
I’d like to grow apples, pears and peaches.Your local nursery should be able to advise you …we grow chemical free apples / plums / apricots and peaches
and we only have a block of land that’s 43 x 20 mtrs equals about 800 sq metres
That’s about 141 foot x 65 foot ..but we Make the most of what room we have ..the house takes up most of the block ..it unusual for Aussies to live on acreages unless your a farmer
We made up our own cucumber relish. It’s like chutney but more finely chopped. We used cucumbers, onions, red peppers, celery seeds, mustard seeds, tumeric and apple cider and sugar. We should exchange recipes.Yeah it is …wait I’ll take a photo soon ..I make / made up my own recipe in addition to tomatoes / onions , I add grated apple / capsicums think you call sweet peppers / I add part malt vinegar part white vinegar
