A Nice Walk ( with photos )

Beautiful photos, thanks for posting them. The eagle is wonderful! Sad to hear about your bike accident, good that you're on the mend and have some strong inflammation medicine.
Thanks Seabreeze. Taking photos of him getting his food was a total thrill. Two seagulls were quite sure he was going to share. lol.
I’m taking celebrex which is a strong anti flammatory. I feel a lot better than I did yesterday. Thanks for dropping by.

Did you do interior hiking. Hiking where you carry your own gear? ( tents, clothes, food etc)

We did a 10 day interior walk in Algonquin park and and 17 day interior canoe trip and were tickled pink to finally see other people instead of bears. Lol. I’m not kidding either.
We met up with lots of them.

We have done backpacking where we carried everything on our backs and slept on the ground with pads. I would never try to do that again. For any chance of sleeping I need a good mattress now.

Our longest trip was a hike from Mammoth Lakes into Yosemite Valley. We've done canoe camping more recently but only at lakes.

Oh I hear ya. Our longest trip was Algonquin Park: 17 days. We took our canoe and German shepherd. I made a back pack so she could carry her own kibble. We travelled about 1/3 of Algonquin and our largest portage was about 8 hours. We had no canoe carrier. We fished for food , met up with many black bears, swam with the otters and listened to the loons at dust and dawn. At that time my husband smoked cigarettes and I smoked black hash. We both had perculated coffee with baileys Irish cream first thing in the morning and last thing at night. It was risky but we had a blast.

I’ve never been quite that adventurous , @PeppermintPatty however we traveled Australia for 2 years covering about 35.000 km with our caravan .
We sold our home in Adelaide ( South Aust capital city ) in the winter of 2004 , and lived / traveled in the van until the winter of 2006
We are not keen on cities so we avoided big towns / cities in preference to walking / hiking for the day in forests / or seaside locations .

Australia has some stunning national parks where you can camp for a small fee and we took advantage of that to hike for the day ,we’d pack our lunch / drinks in a back pack and off we’d go.

We still enjoy travel and walking as I’ve mentioned we’ve only recently returned from a 7 week trip away to Queensland / Canbera / New south wales/ Victoria ….where we traveled over 5.000 km
Some of our travels were
through the snowy mountains in NSW .…stunning scenery / tree ferns / palms exotic birds
seen mount Kosciuszko in the Snowy Mountains region is a unique alpine wonderland of rivers, mountains, ski fields, caves, and glacial lakes.
M K is the highest peak in Australia at almost 7.500 feet high
Snowy Mountains - Wikipedia

it’s an area both of us had never been to before as we usually stick to main roads / highways
it we can now tick that off our bucket list as done ✅

Of course the area has snow fields and all the chair lifts ( we seen ) but of course it was just before the snow season
( it’s still winter here) we traveled through the area

I’ve never seen snow so thats still on my bucket list

The closure of a branch line railway back in 1964 gave the New Forest another asset. The track bed became known as Castleman's Trailway. The Trailway is one of the Forest's gentlest way-marked, walking, cycling and horse riding routes. About 16 miles long, the trailway follows much of the old Southampton to Dorchester railway line.

These two photos show you the route and the solid pathway. If you are lucky you might just catch sight of the forest's shyest creature, the red deer. But for this post I want to show you what happened to the railway station.
This photo, taken before closure, allows you to see it as it was.

Holmsley served much of the surrounding rural area. After closure, stations were pulled down and became either housing or industrial estates. The sensitivity of the forest meant any building was severely restricted. Holmsley became: Holmsley Tea Rooms.

The flavour of the former station remains, and being tea rooms, it's more like a cafe than a pub, although they do have a licence to serve alcohol. It's very popular with walkers when they want to take a break. Tourists and locals both use it regularly too. On the wall in the main restaurant is a wonderful artist's impression of that earlier photograph.

It's a fair distance to walk from where we live, but the proprietor is in love with our old MG. We get treated like royalty when we turn up in it.
The former railway hasn't seen a train in over sixty years, the forest has slowly reclaimed the old trackbed. How beautiful nature has painted it too.

Rarely do I walk far these days, but I do have a bicycle. Not one of those slim racing bikes, mine is more like a delivery bike.

Hey Kadee,
You sure are adventurous. Travelling 5,000 miles IS adventurous. Do you have any pictures you’d like to share? A 7 week trip is very adventurous. Then you travelled 35,000 miles in a span of 2 years. Surely you have some photos. I’d love to see photos of mountains, lakes and rivers.

I’d love to see some photos of the national parks where you went hiking. Surely you saw some wild animals?

I would have loved to have taken an RV or caravan and gone travelling. You lucky 🍀 woman.

Hey @horseless carriage. Your photos are fabulous of the old railway. Thanks for sharing. You look so stylish riding your bicycle. It’s very much like my husbands ebike only his is a 70 pound ebike. I bought a lighter 47 pound smaller bike and gave him mine. Does your lady ride also? My husband is curious about attaching a basket or designing a wooden box to the front or back of his bike.
He’s a wonderful wood worker so I’m curious what he will come up with. Thanks for sharing with us.

Maybe start a thread about it with pics. I’m sure I’m not the only one interested. Or just add a few pics on this thread. I certainly don’t mind.

Today we walked through the forest. It was a 40 minute walk but I didn’t take any photos.
I DO have some photos to share though.

Here’s a hawk that came visiting. Luckily we aren’t feeding the birds lately so he was out of luck.

The hawk is well camouflaged. I’ve tried zooming in and reducing the background.

Later in the day we had a small family of deer visit us. The male is on far side of our raised garden beds so wasn’t very picture worthy but the Doe and fawn certainly are.

Here’s the fawn

And here’s the doe and fawn with our dogs ball. 🏀 lol

Oh yes. You’re the dancer. 💃 I forgot about your dancing. That’s a lovely photo of you.
Thanks for sharing.

@Kadee

You are a woman after my own heart .. I wish I'd had the foresight to travel around Australia before I left. I'd have done it on my own, if I'd foreseen the outcome of my marriage. I only got to see S.A. and Victoria, and
they are beautiful States.

I also look forward to seeing your photos :)

He’s a poodle cross …they call a designer breed ….Cavapoo I stand to be corrected but I believe they are King Charles spaniel / poodle
He’s a “friends “ dog ..she has trouble walking so we offer to take him when we are in Adelaide.
she lives in the Adelaide foothills where homes start at $2. Million

I used to hate red clothing but grown to like the odd red tops / vest in winter now days It just so happens I had red on in other photos:)
