A Nice Walk ( with photos )

@Kadee! Is it a public garden for everyone, Kadee?
Dont you have residents that live in rural areas? Surely not everyone lives in urban areas?

I just looked up rural homes in Australia and they do exist. Not everyone likes living in a subdivision. That’s why there are shows like ‘Escape to the Country!’

Not ALL rural properties are for farmers.
According the the real estate websites, there’s plenty of non suburban properties for sale and they aren’t all farms.

There is 2 houses on top of the sand dunes by those steps ……However those steps are only for decoration as they don’t lead to anywhere …yes its a nice little area where weddings are preformed especially in spring time
( it’s spring time here now )
The area can be entered via a street or from the beach …..
The whole area has a population of about 20.000 but it’s in several small towns all about 20 km away from each other so it’s like a triangle of towns dotted around an area ..

Sane area as other photos @PeppermintPatty ….but this is where many get married

Agree Patty ..and yes some live on about 1 acre blocks near the main shopping hub …20 km away from the beach areas …. but it’s a case of living in a broad acre farm or living a housing area .

Farms are quite large ,they have to be for family’s to make a living as the weather is so unreliable as far as rainfall gos / threats of hail running crops / lack of rain .,this year we didn’t get any rain until way after it was offical seeding times for farmers and it’s been a very dry winter so many crops wont be worth harvesting .

Remember SA is the driest state in Australia … we get in average 8 to 10 inches of rain a year
DH keeps a record of what we get at our home .

But don’t you have fruit trees? Are the fruit tress on your property or on a shared garden?

8 to 10 inches of rain a year isn’t a lot of rain. I can understand why farmers don’t pick land where you are. We get an average of 54 inches per year. There’s a substantial difference. You must have to water those fruit trees of yours.

Yes I’ve got to agree …but some of the rural places you posted are in very isolated parts of Australia
….I should correct my statement and say it’s not common in general in SA cause, I really don’t know where people live in other states.

Oh course I know many people due to dancing , but I don't know anyone who’s ever lived on acreage ….so sorry for any misunderstanding Patty I could have worded that much better .

In the area where allot of fruit is grown and refereed to as the Riverland ..due to the Murray river passing through the area ..,( and the Murray water used to water crops ) ,many live on acreage as depending on what area they are in ( yet again different towns scattered around the area ) some grow citrus because the land higher and away from the river ….some grow many acres of grapes as there are wineries located in the areas …..some grow sultanas / or what’s referred to as table grapes.

Apricots / peaches / nectarines / pears are also grown in the areas about 2.5 hours drive from Adelaide so yes they live on the land …
Visit the Riverland | Attractions & Places To Go | South Australia

Ive only ever met one interstate couple in Queensland who lives on acreage who’s not a primary producer ( farmer)
he and his wife are retired lawyers and he grows begonias ,so I used to often visit to buy 2 or 3 begonias he’d actually breed when we visit QLD and we’d get invited to stay for lunch while there looking at his massive garden /wildlife / horses. / birds on his 5 acres

My home is on a block of land that’s 141 foot deep …62 foot wide …I have my fruit trees planted along the fences on either side of the house so .,I dont have allot of room for gardening ..I have raised garden beds for veggies inbetween the fruit trees… I make use of what I’ve got to grow some of my veggies

That is a small lot but not as small as some.
Using raised garden beds is smart. Do your neighbours get some of your fruit ? How long have you lived there? What are the raised garden beds made from? We have an 8 by 16 raised bed that’s made of cedar . Our other garden is about 3 times that size.

Thats some serious raised beds. Very good. We have deer fence around our gardens including the raised beds. The fences around the raised beds act as trellises as well for vegetables to grew up like beans, cucumbers, zuchinni etc. The deer around here are bold and brave. Luckily they really like birch tree leaves so my husband makes sure to cut down lots of trees for them to eat.

Your garden looks very healthy. It’s good that you have a good relationship with your neighbours.

I’ve made shade cloth sides ( sewed to size on an old sewing machine ) for the raised garden beds as we get a lot of wind off the sea ,even tho we are 5 min walk from the beach , we live on a corner ..and across the road is a large reserve so we get a fair amount of wind

Some of my very compact garden last summer @PeppermintPatty

My plum tree with onions in ground…the she raided garden be DH made …..pumpkins growing between mini on Nectarine other side of garden bed ….Dawrf apricot ..and lemon tree ..we keep the trees cut back to size ….there is a huge peach tree next to plum ( but pruned ) to keep,it compacted

I have quite a few indoor types of plsnts under the huge 7X 7 metre about 21 x 21 foot verandah thats attached to the back of the 2 car garage …and the house …
( only have one car now days )
Weve also got a 14 mtrs x 4 meter verandah (45 foot x 13 foot ) ….is right across the back of our home …..and it’s got many of my very special begonias growing in there … I have lift up shade cloth like… roller blinds that protect my plants from the stinking hot northerly winds we get in summer

WOW Kadee. I’m very impressed. That is a very well thought of garden. Everything looks so healthy. You are a smart gardener . Sewing in a piece of fabric so the wind can’t blow the dirt away is brilliant. I really like the patio blocks. Thats great. You can work without getting your shoes all dirty.
Well designed.

I sewed shade cloth for my plants windbreak SC is much lighter type of fabric now days so it sews ok on a sewing machine .,I sew a thin canvas strip arounf edge of SC so it’s strong for DH to put eyelets in it for me to attach to area.

Yes we have to water our fruit trees and garden ,,we try to use rainwater ( we’ve got 12 thousand Ltr storage tanks for catching RW ) We’ve got 5 tanks … we’ve got mains water as it's, not unusual for us to not get any rain for 5. Months in summer.
All the garden has a watering system we can turn on or off anytime any where we happen to be ….and we have security cameras we can look at to see if the garden needs watering

Today we went on mountain roads for a 3 kilometre walk. It’s 17 degrees Celsius with a few clouds, which for me, was perfect.

I love your environment. When I look at your pictures I notice that I am trying to "smell" the environment too. My nostrils widen and I smell like I do here in our forest. It feels like I am walking with you. It is really fun. :)

Hey Dennis. Oh good. When I take pictures, I do so with you all in mind. Thats why I often mention when I can smell the salt water. I love the fresh smell of forest too. We have forest all around us here. This is our side lawn IMG_4049.jpeg

From our house whichever way we go within 100 yards or so we are in our forest. It sounds similar to our situation but we don't have any roads nearby that take us to places. We do have the Katy Trail that runs by to Missouri River, I took pics of our walks and shared them on the SF a while back. It is nice in Rocheport. It is a historic place in Missouri. It was one of the first settlements here. There were Indians everywhere also. Eventually they moved on, and the white man runs Rocheport now. It is kind of tourist orientated. It is a cool place to be on a hot summer day.

Today we did a 5 kilometre walk along the old railroad track path beside the ocean. Thats Prince Edward Island in the distance.

It was 16 degrees and sunny; A perfect autumn day. We saw a few people walking , one atv and a few bicycles.

I feel so grateful having the pleasure of walking with my family. They are definitely the light of my life.

Today was a short walk cause my husband needs to go into the city. We went up on mountain road. We had to give our dogs their tick medication today and my husband kept forgetting so he’d pick them up to put them in the car and kiss them. He’d instantly screw up his face. It happened twice in a row so his memory isn’t great. lol 😂
We only walked 2.4 kilometres.

Today was a grand walk. We went to the provincial park and walked on the ‘walking trail.’ This park is meticulously cared for. The trail is actually nicely mowed.
IMG_6171.jpeg

We walked 4 kilometres today.
IMG_6166.jpeg
We passed several campsites but most of our walk exposed the ocean.

End of walking trail. IMG_6202.jpeg

We passed 2 other seniors going for a walk and they were very friendly.
