We call it cilantro, and think of it as an herb when in leaf form.
When it;s the seeds, we think of it as a spice.

Cilantro leaves are very basic to Mexican foods and salads and many love it.
Ground coriander seeds are nice in meat stews and Indian dishes. among others.

I think people often use it for soups or marinades, or somtimes as a garnish. My cooking is too basic for doing that, so about the only spices I keep on hand are garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and paprika.

Both you and my husband. When I made a recipe that called for coriander, I put a tiny bit in. I couldn’t taste it, yet he could and commented. He rarely says anything.

Never used coriander leaves. I used coriander in chopped format. Adding it toward the end of cooking. I see YouTube videos where people adding coriander leaves right at the beginning. I think they are just trying to be clever, as prolonged heat significantly reduces the flavour of coriander, so what's the point?

Some people have a genetic predisposition to having cilantro taste like soap. Yes, it's actually genetic and you inherit it.

I'm one of those people. It leaves a horrible taste in my mouth.
