The problem is defining what is a discussion of "politics." Some subjects which are borderline are gun control, abortion, LGBTQ rights, wars in the Middle East or Ukraine, book censorship, sepration of church and state, this country's support or opposition of what other countries are doing, capital punishment. Politics creeps in.

I think Matrix does a good job of eliminating the overt political discussions, as in: "Who are you voting for?" or "Should the electoral college system be abolished?" But the in-between matters are tough to define. They are partially political, but not basically about politics. Must be hard to be a moderator!
He does. We can discuss stuff like guns, the economy, war, and that, and those things can effect our lives so discussing it can be important. But if discussion becomes a political debate, then the topic is closed. And that's fair.

Screw it...let's take off the gloves and go at it like real men.

Come on and let us go after it.!
I would love to see that also, but in my experience here on the SF, I hesitate to suggest any opinion that is a hot potato, because I have experienced the whit and the skill at which some members are capable here of arguing their side of the issue. If it is capable of being devisive, it will become very devisive. That always ends up being a waste of energy, time, and common sense. So unless you want to have your head handed to you, stay away from expressing partisan politics of any sort.

Oh you mention go at it like real men. Wait till a few of the females start verbally eviscerating you in public. It is not a pleasant experience. :)

I welcome all comers.

I saw the no politics message somewhere here when I joined a few days ago and it’s one of the reasons I joined. There are thousands of other sites where people can yawp all they want about politics and I was happy to find this oasis. Now, on a daily basis, I see a few comments where people just can’t control themselves. Go to Fox News if you must bash a politician or a party.

If this is no longer enforced, please let me know.

I appreciate your sentiment but I myself have never moderated a forums and it is rare to find it well done. So since I do appreciate the moderation here I feel like it behooves me to not add to their workload. So I just ignore and avoid what I don’t like. You can block people from messaging you if that becomes a problem. But in general if someone seems off just not engaging is easiest for all concerned. Don’t feed the trolls and they’ll have to go elsewhere.

you're talking to someone (Daisy) who joined , way back in Ocober '23 made this thread, then hasn't posted since..

I guess you haven't seen our school system lately...
With teaching today, seriously, you might want to take some Self Defense and Fight or Flight Strategies coursework in case of a school shooting.

And in my area, a First Aid and CPR class are mandatory. Might as well learn those too.

I used to repo cars...and my spinal injury has most of my body numb...so just like the Timex watch , I can take a licking and keep on ticking. The look on people's faces when you get back up after they blindsided you is precious. I've already had CRP and basic medical training back in the Navy. School shootings are not an issue either. I've had plenty of guns shoved in my face and have yet to be shot. The Dude Abides.
