The poppy was a small cottage industry before they found the demand from the West: (1970's-?)
Their were TV documentaries, articles in newspapers...
The poppy trade information disappeared when the Russians invaded Afghan
It didn't disappear, it grew, grew and grew.
Remember, we paid the farmers money to grow other crops.
The poor folk in Afghan had a cash crop that could support their households.
They were very reluctant to give it up, it returned-Now, we have had a presence in Afghan a long time, they were supposed to be
agriculture advisors, remember?
Who is to say what we did in Afghan? We darn sure did not want the Russians there :
So we sent military advisors, Stinger Missiles...
