Okay, it's way,
way early for this, but I have discovered Lupercalia and I'm just all about it now and anticipating the day. Lupercalia is -- well I actually knew it existed previous - seriously, caught it on, "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina," thought it looked cool, but only very recently looked into it when thinking about the next holiday coming up, which is Valentines Day.
So Lupercalia is an ancient Roman festival held on the 15th of February. There is chatter about it being another Pagan holiday appropriated by the Catholic church, but there's some differing opinions there and really, I don't care. I mean, it probably was, but, whatever.
This holiday, being a celebration of fertility, purification, and wolves (or a specific wolf, the mother wolf said to have nursed the twin founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus).
Anyway, this day is all about passion, blood (for real), fertility, maniacal laughter and running through the streets naked whipping people with goat skins (okay, that one's a bit out there), and sex.
Seriously, where has this day been all my life?
I love Valentine's Day and I'll be remembering friends and family with little cards and treats.
But my partners are getting Lupercalia cards, some form of milk (probably a coco mix to make with milk) and chocolates. And cookies, I found a recipe for love spell cookies which look like cute little hearts with dark swirls. PSA: Don't look up "sex spell cookies" on Pinterest. You'll have to bleach your retinas.
