If ya have an interest ? Nat/Geo is airing a special tonight about the latest on the mystery. It is headed up by Robert Ballard , of Titanic fame........best to check local timing.
 

She was a media creation as the first female aviator of that era.
There have been several TV Documentaries because she continues to be an interesting topic-appears to be a media-built topic: however, still has an audience due to the several possibilities.
While she was a great pilots she had limited ability regarding technical aspects of flying maps, gas ratio: You cannot fly over the Pacific
without good aviation skills. She exhausted fuel and crashed: I've viewed more than one alleged doc. program alleging she and co-pilot
were captured by Japanese: horse feathers.
She pursued that pesky devil called publicity, paid greatly.

The author details 5 women who defied the odds,all became world class aviators in the 20's&30's.Earhart is the most well known,the other 4 I never knew about ,are just as interesting as she was
 
The first time I heard about this woman, I was a little kid. I was interested, it certainly had intrigue, mystery. Problem is, it has now been done to death, no pun intended. Every few years, new leads come up, or are conjured by some writer/production crew. Yes, she was a pioneer. Yes, the puzzle of her disappearance will never be solved, unless her remains are found and conclusive DNA evidence is presented. Other than that, let this go, I say.
 
Well, the program was a-bit of a let down....really nothing more regarding her final demise.

Makes no sense, that as sure as they are about her final coordinates they can't even find evidence of the plane. Particularly early on with Itasca?

As for other female flyers of that era . They weren't married to Putnum , he was a very good /very aggressive pitchman / promoter.......and she had him.

Imo, they [someone] was off on the [actual] coordinates , as such she is somewhere else. Remember the teenage girl in Florida that swears she heard a help broadcast from Earhart, a long time after the crash.

LOL!......my mother always said it was just an elaborate hoax......so her and Noonan could run off together........

Well, how are they going to do that if they don't keep looking ?

I agree it's a-bit overdone in terms of presenting/airing these programs . And when they do , and the program really does not present any actual updates .....[like last night] ......I think that is starting to turn people off on the whole thing.

The primary reason i watched last night was because it involved Ballard. I mean after all , he does have a positive reputation, the WWII subs, Titanic & all.
