Americans - What do you prefer your country to be called ?

Something I'd wondered for a long time- as I don't like to 'say the wrong thing'- do people in England prefer to be called English or British?

people in England are first English , and then British...just as people in Texas, are Texans and then Americans...

Yes Americans are people from the USA. I don't call a Canadian or someone from Columbia or something an American.

...you say that, but Canadians are North Americans.... altho' they identify as Canadians and not Americans

The same question could be asked of the British. Great Britain, Britain or the UK? Americans tend to say England, which is not accurate.
When I was younger, we used to refer to 'The Yanks' but it seems that term isn't used any more.

I watch Weekends with Yankee which is from Yankee magazine. Yankee in this case simply means New Englander.

I prefer "Yankee Heaven" to the United States of America. I would also like to see the United States of America changed to the United States of the World (USW). The USW could then invite all the nations of our world to join in making all of Planet Earth ONE NATION. That would end all wars and allow every resident of planet Earth to be in ONE NATION for ALL!

In everyday conversation, I and most of the people I know call it America. I never hear anyone say "U.S." No particular meaning or implication, we're just used to calling it America. (I was born here.)
