Anti-Semitic incidents ( hate crimes ) in the US increased 388% since Oct. 7th

There are some people in this country that live and feed on hate. To me they are brain dead. You can't talk to them. They refuse to acknowledge the simple fact that this country has always been a country of many types of religions, races, sexual preferences, and so forth. They need that hate in their lives. They don't want to try to get along with anyone who is different from them. I blame one man only for poisoning the politics in this country, spreading lies and conspiracy theories, and destroying one political party.

My mom’s grandfather was from Germany and living in the states. He like many people thought Hitler was going to be a great leader. When he picked up the German newspaper that morning and saw the headline that he had invaded Poland he had a heart attack and died in front of her and she was only 10. Lots of people were fooled.

I watched a clip of an old newsreel that showed a Nazi rally taking place in the USA back in 1939! It was shocking to see all the Nazi symbolism and a line of American flags along the back of the stage. I think it took place at Madison Square Garden and there were about 20,000 in attendance. It was bizarre.

Ater decades of atrocities committed by both Israelis & Arabs, it's difficult to know which is ahead in the count. But I think we should separate anti-Israelis and antisemitic. If one opposes the nation of Israel, they are not antisemitic. If one opposes the Jewish religion and its followers, then one is antisemitic. Granted there is a fair amount of overlap. And the same is true of anti-Arabic and anti- Islamic.
While, now, Hamas was clearly the aggressor, the strategy was to cause the Israelis to over re-act, and lose international support, which the Israelis seem to have done. Israel still has to exit Gaza. I fear Israel will not leave and intends to make Gaza into West Israel.
Israelis and Palestinians Killed since 9/29/2000 is a link to a website called If Americans Knew and it's been online since 2000. Shows the comparison of Israeli vs. Palestinian deaths.

I think for the most part, the rest of your comment is pretty reasonable.

We need to be very careful about deciding about stuff until we spend a good deal of time fact checking it.
Basically, the world is nothing but us hearing of todays liars & is nothing but us hearing a pack of liars over and over again 24 / 7's until you believe nothing but lies.
Sure we all gonna die. Just hopefully not all the same year like dictator / liars threaten us. Who gives a crap about
2 / 300 years from now anyway.

To add to my previous reply (#75) about Hitler, my friend's friend also said that some of the German people loved Hitler. [at first] He was charismatic and helped the needy. I have no proof of the latter but obviously he charmed enough people that he was allowed to carry out his heinous acts.

Diva, about Hitler, what makes him even more horrifying is the knowledge that he was elected by the German people. At the beginning, he was regarded as sort of a joke.. And there were enough people naive enough to vote for him.

Invoking the reality of what he inflicted on the world is perfectly rational if any current politician is openly expressing values exactly in tune with his.

Deborah, the canard about "rich Jews" is a hateful lie. Most of the Jewish immigrants to the U.S. were desperately poor, and through hard work and education climbed their way out of it. Very few Jewish families became extremely wealthy; most are solidly middle-class. That lie has been propagated down through history through ugly stereotypes (Shakespeare's Shylock, for instance). Yes, there are a few very wealthy Jews. And plenty of very wealthy non-Jews as well.

I do agree with those who said that criticism of modern Israel is not antisemitism. Many Jews who were previously avid supporters of the state of Israel are horrified by its current government, which is very right-wing and fanatically religious (although most Israelis are not religious at all). I sympathize with the people who live there.

Obviously not all Jewish people got rich but that's the explanation for the stereotype of Jews being 'good with money' came from. And it came as a result of proscriptions in Europe during and after the Middle Ages, as Jews migrated through all the countries there. And by the way, solidly middle class seems 'wealthy' to the masses who have less.

And I didn't come up with that myself, it was from a discussion between Piers Morgan and Bassem Youseff, an Egyptian surgeon turned comedian. They were talking about what is going on in Gaza at the time and it was a very wide ranging discussion. Bassem Youseff is sort of the Middle Eastern version of John Stewart. Very smart, very informed on politics and uses 'humour' and a good hit of sarcasm to make lots of points.

If you think Jews were solidly middle class in Europe....................you lack any real knowledge. We're supposed to keep our personal feelings to ourselves but I will say I find you greatly deficient. Foolish, even. Laughable, Debrah. That sentence is outrageously wrong. Should I apologize or just inform you ignorance such as that only led to the death of Jews?

Shtetls were the norm and I can explain to you why becoming educated was so you would need us, not kill us.

If I were the type of person who gets easily offended, which I'm not, you would offend me.

One description of the early poverty of the Jewish immigrants to this country around the year 1900, and I sadly don't remember the name of the book but I do remember a lot of the images in it, was autobiographical. Some of the descriptions of how desperate they were stick in my mind.

One was about all the garbage, horse droppings, and general filth in the streets of the Lower East Side. Another was how they crammed as many family members into those fetid apartments as they could, some of them 6-floor walk-ups, and they had to sleep on a board stretched between two chairs. There was never enough food, but they made do, and got some help from the settlement houses that were beginning to develop. There was no "welfare" then. Conditions in Europe were so unspeakably awful that even that was superior; they were delighted and excited to be here. And it took most of them one generation to climb into the middle class.

I guess if you are determined to hate one group of people, you can say that they were resented as they migrated through Europe (making it sound like they were on some kind of tour), and were perceived as middle class. But for most of them, they didn't arrive at that status until they got here and worked their butts off.

Their reasons for emigrating were varied. For some it was poverty; for others, it was fear for their lives. The pogroms of eastern Europe probably killed as many Jews as the Holocaust. For those who were ignorant, and angry because of their own problems, they needed a scapegoat, so down through the centuries that lie persisted that the Jews killed Jesus.

P.S. It was the Romans. Jesus himself was Jewish, remember. And even if it had been the Jews, why would that make antisemitism 2000 years later acceptable?

I regard antisemitism as much of an ignorant mindset as racism. That kind of hate is always wrong. But that doesn't mean I have to like Netenyahu and his government. The Israelis are not terrorists; they did not start this atrocity and didn't just decide one day to go out and kill a whole bunch of Muslims. But deliberately bombing children is never right either.

I feel very discouraged thinking of what kind of a future that country has, surrounded by so much hate.

When you pray for peace to come to this world, who do address? Yahweh, Allah, or in Jesus name? Are they the same? Do they have the same plan for us? The faith one has is derived from their beliefs. These are different holy books with different stories and actually describe a different kind of God. The Koran, the Torah, and the New Testament all have very different accounts of who and what God is. How can there be peace when beliefs about the sanctity of life differs so much? People live in a make believe world when they use faith to hide behind.
The time is coming when a persons faith is going to be meaningless. For us oldies, not so much. We have ingrained biases. But the world is becoming multi-polar, and no matter how we would hope our kind of faith will be forever believed, it is coming to an end...soon.
