Anyone following the Alex Murdaugh trial in SC ?

Life sentences automatically call for an appeal. The Appellate Court will look for any missteps on the part of the prosecution, the judge and the jury very carefully. Alan Dershowitz and his group will look at this as well.

I remember when Dershowitz was able to obtain a new trial for VonBulow and he got him off on a minor error in the 1st trial.

Long story but basically, Alex would act as the lawyer for a family or a person in a case where they could sue a person or company..for huge amounts...and he would keep all or most of the money Millions of pounds in some cases... They all trusted him, they thought if he said that there was no money then he was being truthful....or if he gave them 30k instead of 3.5 million, that's all that was awarded to them.

One family has already managed to get their full $4 million back... but to show how duplicitous and vile this man is...

He took out a Multi Million public liability Policy on his property.. 4 weeks later his perfectly healthy young housekeeper mysteriously fell down the stairs ( just a few steps) leading to his front porch. He sued himself (his company) on behalf of the family and got $4.5 million..

The young sons of the woman believed him as a friend and ex employer of their mother when he told them that the payout was only 35 k..or something like that... Of course they didn't know he was suing himself.. but they accepted the money believing AM was their protector and Good Samaritan.. and Alex M pocketed $4 million of their money... ..this is just one example of many cases.. he also stole millions from the Legal company where he was a partner..

I'm so impressed with the judge. He knew Alex deserved life in prison and didn't hesitate to sentence him, but, at the same time, he seemed genuinely concerned with Alex's soul. He told Alex he would probably see the faces of his son and wife every night of his remaining life.

No, they will sue his law firm instead, Holly, and they will pay what they can. After that, I wouldn't be surprised if they declare bankruptcy.

I wonder if they will tho' Lois, because he stole from them and then was sacked... It'll be interesting to see what happens , because the law firm is just as much a victim of his fraud as AM's clients were

yes I'm sure the judge meant that Maggie and Paul will haunt him every night for the rest of his life.. and Alex replied that he sees their faces all day every day. I think at that point in the proceedings Alex thought that the judge was going to be a little lenient on him... but no , as far as the judge was concerned everything that came out of Alex M's mouth was a lie.. so he hit him with the Big stick...

I didn't watch the trial except for the verdicts and sentencing. I've always read that quick deliberations are bad news for the defendant. Murdaugh as a lawyer knew that. He very briefly showed genuine emotion upon entering the courtroom to hear the verdicts but it was for himself.

I think with the judges words, it was the first time something got through to Alex. His demeanor changed a bit like a chink in the armour.

lol..I don't think it helped him either when the jury after 6 weeks of sitting in that courtroom.. and one guy nearly losing his job over it because it had been initially set for 3 weeks.. and then on the final day they were sent to the jury room and told they could deliberate till 10pm, but they wouldn't be getting any dinner.

I think those folks were spitting mad!! :LOL:

And if he didn't see their faces before, the judge made sure he would now. I agree, the judge was concerned with his soul.

I once served on a jury. I swear, if you ever are in criminal court, you want a non-smoking jury. While we convicted the guy on two counts, the burglary charge was a stretch. But he got it.

But I think several voted to convict quickly so we could smoke. And I lost 3 days work at $300 which sure didn't help my wallet.

The real pisser was we had lunch and I got stuck with a "Vegetarian" sandwich. Yeah, wasn't happy at all.
