Anyone had knee replacement?

That's impressive. How long before he could walk on his own? With a cane or unaided?

I found that some people do get both knees done at the same time. I will talk with my Dr about that, I can sure see a benefit to a single recovery period. Apparently about 6% of knee replacements are doubles.

The Pros and Cons of Double Knee Replacement

Put in some serious thought into this double replacement.
When you have one done at a time, you have the other knee and side for strength.
In something simple like stairs......go down with the good, up with the bad......or is it the other way around
Really could not imagine both joints done at the same time......i think you're playing in fire.....and a tremendous pain by doing both at once.

My knees are fine, but my wife (78) had one knee replaced 20 years ago, and the other 12 years. Our home has stairs, and as I mentioned in another post, we try to walk a mile a day. She has NEVER had a pain or discomfort in either knee. An important issue -- after the surgery you will be asked to do a series of exercises. It is IMPORTANT to take those exercises very seriously and do them how, and as often as instructed.
That's great. I've had both my knees done about 15 years ago. I was told then that they should last for about 20 years, so I'm closing in on the 'warranty' lol. Any indications from your wife that that her 20 year old replacement may be near the end? Did she get an approximate length of time for them? I'd hate to have to go through it again! Thanks.

My wife was also told 20 years. Her 20 year knee is actually about 21, and is fine, as is the younger replacement. Good luck. (-8

No replacement yet ...... But I do need one. Actually , they tell me, I need one knee, two hips & a shoulder . I'm just not interested in that amount of surgeries .

Because I live alone .... two of the surgeons I saw , said they would not do any of it unless I agreed to a 15-30 day stay in a rehab facility . That's a total of four months away from home, in one of those 'joints' ........ no pun intended.

Good luck with your decision & the result !!

Going back to ortho guy next week to discuss arthritis level and what makes sense to deal with it. What is disconcerting is that the pain is so sporadic. Woke me up in the middle of the night again and was not able to go back to sleep. Postponing surgery may be a mistake, but I really want to believe I can still travel at least once this year.
