Are any seniors getting measles booster shots?

Who is we all? Do you mean people in your country?

I had measles when I was in Kindergarten- approximately a year before a vaccine was available.
Chicken pox two years later- no vaccine around then, either.
I had shingles approx. a year and a half ago.
there was no chicken pox vaccination that I know of when we were kids, otherwise my sister wouldn't have got chickenpox when she was 6.... but we got all sorts of other vaccinations including measles, and Polio

Maybe measles vaccine was available in your country before it was available here.

The only vaccines available in my area when I was a young child were the polio vaccine and DT (not DPT).

what's DT ?... I just remembered we had the TB vaccination as well... which we go aat school.. when I was about 12...

Can You Get Shingles If You've Never Had Chickenpox?

No, You Can’t Get Shingles if You’ve Never Had Chickenpox

But if you haven’t been vaccinated, you could get chickenpox from somebody with shingles..

want to try to untangle what so-called experts said here?? LOL!
20 years ago I got shingles right after radiation therapy in the head and neck (like I wasn't already miserable?). Unfortunately I gave my then 10 year old son chicken pox:(

I got the MMR and shingles and flu and covid shots and boosters and whatever else I was supposed to get. According to the King Sooper's pharmacist, I'm up to date on all my shots.

Are you sure that is was a vaccination?

First they give you a Mantoux skin test by on your arm to see whether you have been exposed to the TB bacillis. If you have been exposed, they check you out with a chest Xray. Not everyone who has been exposed comes down with TB. On the other hand, if you prove negative to TB, as my sister and I did, immunisation is recommended.

Times may have changed since the 1950s

The Mantoux skin test is a diagnostic tool used to detect tuberculosis (TB) infection by measuring the immune response to a purified protein derivative (PPD) injected under the skin.

The Mantoux test, also called the tuberculin skin test (TST) or PPD test, is used to determine whether a person has been exposed to Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria that cause TB. It is primarily a screening tool for latent TB infection, where the bacteria are present but inactive, and can also help identify active TB disease. The test does not differentiate between latent and active TB; additional tests, such as chest X-rays or blood tests, are required for confirmation.

Interpretation of Results
  • Positive test: Indicates TB infection, but not necessarily active disease. The threshold for positivity varies depending on risk factors, such as immunosuppression, recent exposure, or BCG vaccination history.
  • Negative test: Suggests no TB infection, though very recent exposure or immunosuppression may yield false negatives.

Follow-up: Individuals with a positive test usually require a chest X-ray to rule out active TB before starting treatment for latent TB infection.

yes we had the skin test first of all on our wrists.... I remember if it swelled up a little after about 3 days I think... it was either postive or negative can't remember which... then came the X-ray ...

People over 50 concerned about getting measles and if they should have a booster - first step would be to check your immunity via serology ie get a blood test.
Most of us will have immunity already from natural disease or prior vaccines and measles immunity from either is usually life long
However there are a few people that immunity wanes on, especially those who only had one dose of the vaccine not the 2 currently recomended
And then if you do not have immunity you can get the vaccine.

Unfortunately shingles tends to do that - stays dormant in your system for years since having had CP years earlier and then when you are under stress or immune system down - along comes shingles.

I had measles and mumps together as a child so I was fat and spotty I have also had Chicken pox .

As I recall in those days once one kid in the neighbourhood got one of those diseases they had a party so all the kids could get it and have it over with.

The only exception was Polio, then children weren't allowed out of the house during an outbreak.

I have had a shingles vaccine

I remember my parents telling me that happened when they were children...

For me since COVID-19 every "vaccine" my former government recommends is a no go.
Nietzsche wrote "The state is the coldest of all cold monsters". Replace 'state' with 'government' and it is valid today even more as at his times. How can people be so stupid to believe that their government only wants the best for them?

this isnt political and it isnt about the government.

It is about medical recomendations and posters wanting to find out about their measles immunity/protect themselves and others from measles outbreaks
