Are you addicted to your Mobile phone?

Don't care much for one. I use a tracfone for traveling and a second one the wife has hooked to her computer that works off wifi so no separate phone bill (we have no land line). It's cheaper for me to just replace the phone with another rather than renew the units. (go figure) Of course, I end up with a lot of un used phones around the house. Here's what's in my computer desk draw. There are more out in the storage shed I'm sure, (some old flip phones) but, it's to cold to go looking for them. 🙂 We used to re-sell the old ones on ebay, but realized that there is a strong possibility that terrorists were wanting them, so, no more. Funny thing is most of them still power on even though some have sat in the draw for years.

I keep it with me when I’m out and about and if there’s an emergency I can contact a family member if need be. Also my husband has aging parents and we want to make sure we stay on top of that as they live across the country and could need our help.

Definitely not addicted at all, I keep it in my pocket when I go out, when I get back home I shut it off and put it in the drawer. I have a landline that I use for most calls. Never text.

I am not addicted, but I use it a lot.

The other day, it occurred to me how hypocritical our society is on this. The tech company geniuses give us this amazing little device which fits in the palm of our hand. It provides phone service, messaging, internet connections including email, restaurant reservations, access to buying anything online, all the newspapers in the world, a camera, an alarm clock, a music player, a physical fitness assistant (counts steps per day), a calculator, a compass, an atlas with maps and directions to drive anywhere, games and recreation, and on and on. Then, every article we read on the subject is about how terrible the cell phones are, how they have ruined our kids' and grandkids' brains, how people are not connecting with each other any more, lots of quotes about "I never spend any time looking at my phone, I prefer reading a good, old-fasioned book," etc.

Pardon my curmudgeonly self, but sheesh.

got it in a nut shell !

Yes. Not about texting or talking on it. I use it for music while walking or at the gym. I watch some favorite tv shows while doing cardio. I have all my grocery/store cards on an app. I use notes app for Keeping track of books I want to read, grocery list, gifts I buy for the family, gifts I want to buy, books I want to get for my grands, things I have done with hair and dates, names of people I meet at different places I go, my health chart, dentist information and date and what was done and next appt,I love to use the voice memo, not a gamer except when I am with one grandson and we do Find the Object, I enjoy the free coloring app and do that when watching tv. Family all live far away. My phone is with me all the time. At night it is on DND.

I love my cell phone. I love all the features on it. I ride the bus and it's boring. So I do crossword puzzles or trivia. It also has a camera. I can listen to music . It's more of a computer than a phone for me and a lot cheaper. Texting is more convenient than phoning and playing telephone tag.

People knock texting but what do you think we do on this forum?

I wouldn't wish to have my computer on all day, let alone my mobile phone. My computer comes on at 8am and is switched off before 7pm. Forums are a displacement activity when I have nothing more important to do for a few minutes.

Just my Final say, and each to their own of course.
Anyway, as I have said I have no use for a mobile phone. It would just be another item to drag around with me that will rarely ever be used. When I'm out about town, the last thing I want is someone calling me or texting just to say hi. I'm not anti-social and I love talking to people, but I'd rather do my talking in person. There are only 4 or 5 people that call me, family and friends, and nothing is important enough that they can't just leave me a message on my home phone. As for other features, why would I want to watch a movie on such a tiny screen when I can see the same movie on a bigger screen at home? And why would I want to surf the web and e-mail when I already spend time most days doing some of that at home (PC)? Everywhere I go I see people ignoring their friends and playing with their phones, restaurants especially. Remember that song "Phones are Ringing All Over Town" . Well, now phones are literally ringing everywhere. I will never, ever own a Mobile phone and I don't care if 99.9% of the population has one! I don't need or want them! " I don't see a problem with not wanting a Mobile phone.
PS Next time you are in a Supermarket count how many people there are chatting away on their phone (Loud of course) so we can all hear!!..."Stop the world I want to get off"

Whatever floats your boat. I honestly don't get why this is rant-worthy. You don't want a mobile phone? Don't get one. As my father would ask in situations like these, "Do you expect a medal for this?"

Those of us with cell phones don't judge those who decide against having them.

Rudeness didn't originate with cell phone use. Before cells, it was very common to see people reading newspapers, magazines and books in restaurants and public spaces, completely ignoring their companions.

I love the texting capability of cell phones. My family is a very close one, unfortunately not geographically. We don't call each other that much, but we do rely on texting a lot to keep up to date. We do a lot of visiting, vacations together, etc. so there's always a lot of planning gong on.

I just got back from my travel agent, where I was booking a cruise for me, my daughter, and my son. There were a million questions and details to check with each other. Would have been very difficult without being able to text..

Thank you. I have grown weary of the 'holier than thou because I never use my cell" threads. They are just an excuse for yet another meaningless rant.

I live in an apartment. It's boring. That's why I come here. I live alone and do my best to keep my mind occupied. I'm a political junkie and a news addict as well. To each his own.
