Are you in the path of the "Christmas Blizzard"?

It will be -6 tomorrow night and Thursday will have wind chills of -40, 3-6 inches of snow, wind at 45 MPH gusts. We are preparing for a power outage that might be a few days. We are filling buckets of water, bringing in extra wood, and getting all our candles out. Batteries and flashlights are necessary too. I hope it isn't that bad, but if it is we will be prepared...hopefully.

Same here. This storm should bring some of the coldest temperatures in decades. We'll make a quick grocery store run today, then plan on staying put for several days. We had our family Christmas this past Sunday, so everyone can ride out this storm at home.

Just really cold and maybe a little snow. Snow=good, ice=bad. During my career, I have worked out in blizzards taking kids home from school on snowmobiles when the buses couldn't get them home. The kids and I had a ball. It's the wind that makes it dangerous. I have seen complete whiteouts while driving and huge pileups on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. I think we once had 27 cars and trucks stacked up and couldn't move. In about 2007. We had to shut down I-78 between Harrisburg and Allentown/Bethlehem due to a blizzard, The state plows couldn't even get through.

Here's a picture after the storm after it had passed. It was a few days before anything got moving again. The state police had to use the west bound lanes for emergency use. We were delivering water and in some cases, even snacks to cars with kids in them. We gave the truckers water if they didn't have any. I was riding a snowmobile that we had leased for the week with mounted red and blue lights on it. I believe we leased about a dozen of them. This line up was about some 30 miles long. There wasn't a lot of snow, but there was a lot of wind and very cold. I about froze on that snowmobile. Blizzard

Don't really know. Cold temps - yes, with negative numbers and wind chill in the -30° range. The forecasters can't pinpoint the moisture, whether snow, rain, sleet, or ice and amounts. They say 48° at 9PM Thursday and -5° at 7AM Friday. Moisture begins at 6AM Thursday, continuing until 6AM Friday. The bulk starting from 12AM Friday.

Here in the Texas Gulf Coast...when it gets below freezing its bad let alone a projected 18 and 20° and not getting above freezing for 36-40 hours! We call these "blue Northers. God Bless everyone in the path of this up mid west an northeast way. Keep warm!

I don't really know if I am in the path or not. If the power goes out, I can't do anything about heat or hot water (or coffeemaker!). I have plenty of warm clothing and blankets. I can heat a lot of water and put it in a thermos and thermos cooker I have. Possibly hot water heated in the Instant Pot would stay warm if I kept the lid on it. Not hot enough for coffee though. I have cold and canned foods that don't have to be cooked too. Keeping my bunny is warm is my top priority.

Seriously thinking of you all who are dealing with this Blizzard.
Keep us posted unless you lose electricity.
Hopefully you have generators and those radio thingys.

I'm so spoiled with the warm sunny weather over Thanksgiving here,
that 50 degrees right now with some drizzle is like a Nightmare 🥶

Thinking of you people to the North .... Been watching the weather channel, and it just makes me cold, watching what so many of you people will be dealing with!
Hope there aren't many power outages ... stay safe and warm.

Around here, it's supposed to be DRY, no snow or ice this far south.

We are to get our coldest freeze blast in a very long time down here, so thoughts of freezing (bursting) plumbing comes to mind.
That's about it, as it's supposed to be DRY, no snow or ice this far south.
Bonnie, your pipes won't burst if your heat is on.

Under sinks; leave vanity or cabinet doors open so heat can get near sink pipes and leave a teeny stream of water coming out of the faucets.

But dang, if your upstairs or next door neighbors aren't home........

Stay warm 🌹
