Are you in the path of the "Christmas Blizzard"?

Cold temps and high winds but they say, so far, no precipitation. There was a bad on last year. Have everything covered and supplies needed. I worry more for those that might get the ice and snow.
 

When it snows here everything comes to a standstill as it did yesterday. Like many others we moved here to escape the snow but no such luck. My car is in a parking spot and will take a couple of days to clean off, I'm waiting for it to melt a little. By then we are forecast to have more snow then rain. I'll just be walking everywhere for the next couple of days and making sure our feathered friends get fed.

Under sinks; leave vanity or cabinet doors open so heat can get near sink pipes and leave a teeny stream of water coming out of the faucets.

Shaun, in February 2021, Texas had wide spread power outages, during a freak cold spell when it got down to 20 degrees for over 2-3 days.

No power or heat when the power grid gave out .... that's when water pipes froze all over the area, and over 200 people died.

Construction in the Southern part of the country is typically different than in the North ... and most people don't have basements in their homes.

But usually our southern Texas weather issues are very mild compared to the rest of the country, even northern Texas.

And living on the 3rd floor of my complex, I hardly ever turn the heat on in winter months anyway, and keep my patio door open most of the time.
 
Let's all remember to look out for others. Some us are younger in age or better health than others. Now we are looking at bad weather all over the country. Many will be forced to stay home at Christmas. I will be alone by choice.

If you make a pot of soup or yummy treats I challenge you take some to neighbors that need checking on during this time. Just seeing a smiling face, letting them know we care enough to make sure they are doing okay does wonders.
 
Not much, maybe a bit on the edge, single digit lows forecast and a little snow, but not a lot.

I'm sure it true, if not for Canada our weather would be eternal spring! LOL

I think this one is getting blamed on Siberia...
 
I just received a bluetooth room thermometer from Amazon. It's going on the wall here in my plant room/enclosed patio so I can keep an eye on the temperature since this room has no heat. It has windows all along the west side, which allows the sun to keep it fairly warm in winter afternoons, and I have a portable heater in here that I use in the morning.

Since the thermometer is bluetooth enabled, I can check on the temperature without getting off the couch or getting out of bed if I feel inclined to check it in the middle of the night. Gotta keep those plants comfortable. :ROFLMAO:
 
Seems that the weather forecasters keep shifting their predictions concerning how much snow/sleet/rain we're going to get out of the bomb cyclone. What they are sure of is that temperatures will drop dramatically. I went out today and stocked up on as much as I could so I won't need to go out once the storm hits.
 
Friday should be interesting. We're to get a mix of rain and snow but with little accumulation and a high of 49 F (9 C). Then it's supposed to drop to 5 F (-15 C) in a few hours as the cold front arrives with wind gusts up to 40 mph.
 
Our weather says we have 81% chance of no accumulation, so I guess we will get mostly rain and any snow is expected to melt right away when it lands. OTOH, there is a 5% chance of getting 2 inches of snow Friday, so who knows. The grocery store was a madhouse. I had two very close calls in the parking lot and leaving. Might be a lot of young impatient overconfident kids on holiday break driving around maybe.
 
At the moment, the forecast for Thursday will go from 36°F down to 4°F w/70% chance of freezing rain. Temps after that in teens or lower for several days. However, that has been changing hourly when you look at it. Grocery stores are a mad house because of the holidays & the weather is making it worse. Usual bread & water flying off the shelves.
