Living the Dream
Have Ben watching Ray Donavan streaming on Paramount. It just goes on and on. Much violence for those that don’t care for it and love scenes that leave nothing to the imagination. It reminds me a lot of the Soprano series.
While claimed to be set somewhere in the U.S. it's pretty clear that was post-production revisionism, probably forced by Canadian government censors. In the U.S. we don't have high officials with a title "Minister of..." this, that, or the other thing. The body count is rising. A mysterious plague is killing everyone over age 21 in Pretty Lake. Quarantined and afraid those left must survive without help, a cure, or adults.
Looking forward to what you think of the third season. I don't mean that in a bad way. I enjoyed it.Colony is better in season two than even in season one. Almost into season 3 now, I'll be disappointed when it runs out without any conclusion, since its last 2 seasons were never made.
Good writing, the people act like real people.
I tried watching this, partly because the lead actor Josh Holloway, who used to be in Lost, sure is eye candy (love his dimples), but I just couldn't get into it.Colony was a TV series about a post-invasion Earth, but almost all of the conflict is between collaborators and freedom fighters. You'll barely see aliens for most of the show.
It only ran for 3 of its planned 5 seasons, and it ends abruptly with no clean ending at all. But it is still pretty good, mostly drama and hardly any sci-fi in it at all. Sadly even dumbed down this much for mass audiences wasn't enough to draw enough viewer share and its cost to produce thus doomed it even though it hardly contains any expensive costuming or effects.
It's disappointing that we can't have nice things, but unless a show is a soap opera or about kitty cats or pap sports or caped spandex the audience is just too small.
So Colony is just one more unfinished work among so many. It is still worth watching though considering how little there is to choose from.
Right now it's on The Roku Channel.
I started it too, really enjoyed S01. I'm not worried about the multiple story lines, just looking forward to more surprises. The show reminds me of 'Justified' with Olyphant.Trying out the second season of “Troppo” on Amazon. It’s a whole lot more gritty than Dr Blake but compelling. The story line seems a little more convoluted this season but I’m going to hang in there. Anyone else seen this?
