Are you streaming ( or binge watching ) any series on Netflix, or any other service? Tell us about it.

Hoopla's switching over to Kanopy at the end of May for us, I guess I'll wait til then, I do have a library membership. Something I haven't tried other than getting the DVDs and watching them at home. Not sure of what's involved at our end.

I don't know where I came across this series (maybe here), but rather than pay for it through a streaming source, I borrowed the first season from my public library. Liked it so well that I put a hold on the second season.
"A Place to Call Home" - an Aussie series that takes place in the early 1950s.

Fortunately, my library has all six seasons on DVD.
Watched it...loved it. A lot to digest, at times.

My library offers Kanopy & Hoopla. As far as I can tell, Los Angeles Public Library system plans to continue offering both. Sure hope so.

Started watching a BritBox production called 'Shetland' by Ann Cleeves, 4-5 years ago, then only had 4 seasons. Now 9, the characters have all changed but it was a good crime series. Because of my age & memory, I stated back again watching from season 1 finally made it to season 5, so it's all new. But I can't tell. I like the British crime series. Seems like women are always the victims, they sure have a rough time of it.
I agree that it was a good series. The best years were with Douglas Henshall, even though his character's piousness wore pretty thin.

There sure were a lot of murders for an island its size...😄

House of David on NetfliX.

The first season takes us from David’s youth, to being anointed by Samuel as the next king of Israel, to David’s fight with Goliath. They hold true to the Biblical story and the Israelites relationship to God. Since not much is known about the various other characters like members of Saul's house and the Philisteins , they use a lot of artistic license to add some drama.

I really liked the character of Goliath. He is presented as so much more than a big brute of a man. For starters he loved his mother. The fight between David and Goliath was very well done, IMO.

We just wrapped up Adolescence on Netflix, which follows the case of a 13 year-old boy who stabs and kills a female classmate. It is not so much a crime drama as it is a commentary on raising children in this day and age. The way his parents were affected had me in tears at the end.
Thanks for this. I saw the trailer and was waiting to hear a review from someone whose taste I trusted before diving in.

I just re-attained Netflix. I'd canceled my subscription a few weeks ago to get MAX. But then my daughter informed me she would put me on her account bc they had a special offer. I'm looking forward to watching Adolescence which I've heard so much about.

For a good time in Australia, solving mysteries with two enjoyably odd lead characters, try 'Troppo' on Prime Video. Two 8ep seasons.

[EDIT: I just learned that the short hair of the woman lead wasn't for the show. She had just recovered from stage4 lymphoma. They thought the short hair fit the character.]

Decided to focus my streaming to one at a time, gets too confusing switching back & forth. Currently just starting season 7 of 9 on 'Shetland'. Will switch back to 'Brokenwood' (series 5 of 9) when I finish 'Shetland'. It's down to 6 episodes each season. 3 left X 6 = 18 episodes left, 3 nights watching.. I see the light at the end of the tunnel., so to speak. Still having trouble with the Scottish dialog. At least the New Zealand dialog is more understandable. Then going to give the Australian series (A Place to Call Home) a go, sounds interesting..

Where are you watching these series? Acorn?

On Peacock

Shadowlands (2021)
Watch a desperate wildlife drama play out in the harsh lands of Earth's most remote southern latitudes. Meet the creatures who call this challenging place home and witness the strength and cunning they must use to ensure their survival.

We began watching this nature program. The 1st. episode was about wildlife in New Zealand. It is interesting as well as some of the names of the areas where the wildlife live. Real tongue twisters.:)

@StarSong moved on from Brokenwood, not completely but taking a breather. Finished 'Shetland' 'Brokernwood' is quirky but can be tabled since each episode has a solo theme and easy to follow.. I just started 'A Place to Call Home', Watched first episode of first series (Season) on AcornTV. It does appear to be watchable, so will continue to stay the course & watch more. Thanks for the recommendation. Still like the laptop venue. No ads. That says a lot about my tastes & patience.

Had an issue a couple days ago with AcornTV, no access, discovered via duckduckgo search they had updated either the login or website. it was a problem with the scrpt. It's resolved & was accessible within 24 hours.

Cancelled both BritBox & AcornTV this AM due to my lack of interest! The series tabled were A Place to Call Home & BrokenWood Mysteries. A little of BrokenWood goes a long ways, quirky & redundantly boring. A Place to Call Home has with the completion of Season 1 become obsessed with WWII & The Holocaust theme, of which I become locked into prior & needed to escape. It's important in itself but is too dark at the moment.

I also took exception to BritBox who found the need to raise their subscription $1 a month, while not insurmountable was an issue of needless income to them. I kept the logins in place but will take a breather from both. I then spent the morning organizing my laptop: Editing my emails. file manager & updating the OS & apps. Being OCD can be a curse. I was motivated by previous posts addressing the issue.

I then searched my streaming services compiling a desired list of movies & TV series to watch. Yes, to the question of does it make me angry with the need to more layers of security on web sites? Security is important but the lack of any organized change is bothersome to the OCD. Can't they use the same approach rather than let every Tom, Dick or Harry set the rules.

I have been all up in, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. I'm on the 4th episode of the second season and really enjoying the return to the feel of original Star Trek.

I'm watching Star Trek: Discovery too, but in order to stay true to the timeline I have had to stop Discovery after season two and begin Strange New Worlds.

Discovery is more of the serial-type storyline that arcs over entire (or several) seasons. So far, I'm definitely enjoying Strange New Worlds more.

@JeeperDon, I liked "Troppo" too but it was kind of intense in places... the female lead was very good

Right now I'm alternating between "Chelsea Detective" and "Blue Heelers." The second is a little more low key (most of the time) and I'm enjoying it. Only the first season of Chelsea Detective is available for free on Amazon so I'm trying to space them out. Always interesting to see another side of London... the city has so many different faces.

I started Oz last night, which is about an American men's prison. I might not continue bc it is so brutal but also it's so well done I'm gonna try to hang in there.
Yeah, I don't watch prison films anymore. They're all the same. I liked Brute Force (1947) with Lancaster and Hume Cronyn; and Birdman of Alcatraz (1962). But haven't liked any since. I've also gotten tired of kidnapping films, and won't watch them again. No way to do anything new with that story line.

Still doing Star Trek. I've finished Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks and am now watching, Prodigy which is geared for families, but still fun as it stars Kate Mulgrew reprising her role as Kathryn Janeway.
