Over time, I learned there was a lot of children's-book illustration in the Victoriann era and early 20th century that was interesting or just fun. Wain's later work was "out there", as the expression goes. These examples look like the art of a peyotilist, though in his lifetime he was often deemed to have just plain genuine mental issues.

Yes he had mental issues and diagnosed as a schizophrenic.
I have couple more of his work I downloaded years ago but danged if I can find them! !
