The elderly are supposed to have the wisdom of the ages. Now that you're a geezer, do you think you're a lot wiser?

Wisdom in terms of what it takes to work for a living. Wisdom in terms of what it takes to be married and raise kids. Wisdom in terms of what is a real value for the money and what isn't. Wisdom in terms of how to fix things that break or wear out. Wisdom in terms of knowing what you know for sure versus knowing what you will never know (so you can stop beating yourself up if you didn't learn certain things in your lifetime. If folks don't mind. I really do not understand what it means to be wise. Does it mean you have learned from your mistakes? Does it mean you understand what life means? I think some people believe certain people are wise, and other people don't. so is it a totally subjective , with no real definition?
From this @OldFeller I have achieved a fair amount of wisdom then.Wisdom in terms of what it takes to work for a living.
Wisdom that comes from acceptance of the world the way it is and people the way they are.
only if you learn from itI don't think it's for me to say whether I have gained wisdom or not, but I can certainly say I've gained experience, which is often a good substitute.
only if you learn from it
Five miles is 8 kilometers. Here in Canada the posted highway speed is 100 kph, which is 62 miles an hour, rounded off to 60 mph. A kilo is 2.2 pounds. This morning I weigh 87 kilos, which is 191 pounds, and I stand 179 centimeters tall which is about five foot ten inches. A kilometer is 1,000 meters.i know a LOT of "stuff". stuff that worked its way into my thick skull along the way.
i NEVER look at the date on carton of eggs, but ALWAYS open carton... to not just look at the eggs but give each one a touch to make sure none are stuck... thanks, Nana!
there are 5280 feet in a mile.
wish i knew the metric system better. i KNOW a meter is about 3" longer than a yard. i KNOW a liter is a few swigs more than a quart. now kilos... kilometers and/kilograms... either 2 to a mile/pound or 2 miles/lbs make a kilo... can never remember.
i think it's incredibly sad that kids can't do fractions without their phone or a calculator.
Yes....and your experiences. If folks don't mind. I really do not understand what it means to be wise. Does it mean you have learned from your mistakes? Does it mean you understand what life means? I think some people believe certain people are wise, and other people don't. so is it a totally subjective , with no real definition?
i say just go to metric and let the whiney Americans whine. those of us who want to and can learn something new... well, we will adjust. i just have to remember (somehow... need a mnemonic) that a kilogram is a little more than 2 lbs and a kilometer is a little more than 2 miles.Five miles is 8 kilometers. A kilometer is 1,000 meters.
The metric system is based on units of ten. One of something, ten of it, a hundred of it, a thousand of it. There are no fractions in the metric measurement system. Your mechanic's socket wrenches in the metric system are even numbers, such as a 6 mm wrench, or a 10 mm wrench, or a 14 mm wrench.
Americans use the Metric system every day, without thinking about it. A 2 liter bottle of soda, a 9 mm Glock pistol, a 5 liter V8 car engine, a kilo of cocaine, and so on. Industry, medicine, science, all use the metric system in the USA. It is at the most basic level where the average American has problems thinking about, and using Metric systems. Only 2 countries in the world do not use Metric officially. The USA is one, and the other country is a small place in Africa, that no one remembers the name of.
