At the Hotel

I mostly go to my timeshare. I sit on the balcony looking at the Atlantic ocean and watching the boats go buy. I go downstairs to the cafe/lounge for Karaoke Saturday nights and use the fitness center.
 
I carry on life, in hotel rooms, in a manner that's as close to my life at home, as possible. I get rooms with full kitchen facilities, when possible, I go shopping to stock the kitchen, I cook, I clean, I make the bed, I keep things orderly. No radical differences from being at home, for Janet, Max and me.
Yeah, the first thing we do, on arrival, is lift the mattress, and check for "wildlife."
 
Wash the bar area including coffee pot and glasses. Spray down the bathroom with Lysol. My cousin was sick during a trip and stayed in the room while the maid 'cleaned'. She had one cleaning cloth. Went into the bathroom first, then came out and cleaned the bar area with the same cloth. Then set out fresh glasses on the bar. My cousin checked the bathroom as soon as the maid left. And yep ...the toilet seat was damp.
 
Look for insects. Pull out the sheets from the foot of the bed. They make them so tight my toes curl under. Put close pins on the drapes to keep them closed tight. I put band aids on all the little lights,such as the TV and fire detectors. If the hall is well lit the little hole in the door gets a band aid also. Wipe off the door knobs and light switches.This whole process takes forever.

This is why I don't like travelling.

Mine used to go into a pretty glass jar in the guest bathroom. Some people don't like to use a bar soap that has been used by anyone else and this was the days before the pump bottle of liquid soap was on all washroom counters.

When I worked, I stayed at hotels continually. I would collect the soap and shampoo and any other amenities, like lotion or whatever and save them in shopping bags. At the end of the year, I would have several bags. We would then donate them to homeless shelters and the County home, which is for very old and ill residents that couldn't afford going into a LTC facility.

Everyone really appreciated the offerings and actually looked forward to my once a year visit with the bags in tow. I would also throw in some disposable razors and tooth brushes, along with small tubes of toothpaste and deodorant.
 
I never did anything differently. After a long day of flying, I just wanted a good night's sleep and be ready for the next day. Hardly ever turned on the TV. Shower, get in bed, sleep, get back up, go for a quick run, shower again, dress and head back over to the airport. Hardly even had any dinner, except what we got on the plane. Breakfast was either at the airport or on the plane.
