love the photo!

probably similar ones could be taken from Queensland beach places too - Whitsunday Islands etc - Hamilton Island would probably be big enough to have a polling booth
Although I am surprised people are allowed to take photos inside polling booths

Is morning after now - Labor Party has been returned fro a second term.

I have experienced, on this very site, Americans suggesting that as a Brit, I should not have any opinion about US politics. Well, let this election be part of the reason why whatever happens in the US affects everyone else. The "Trump effect" was fully in place in the Aussie election.

A thread for the Aussies on SF. Other countries can have a look too. Best of luck for who you vote for :)

I couldnt find anything on google to support the idea that it was directly aimed at Tony Abbot - who, for those who don't know, was an Australian prime minister a few years back and was also a volunteer lifesaver and runner in beach runs and the like and famously wore budgie smugglers.

I did find this though: Moreover, the Australian constitution does not mention anything about a dress code for voting, and it has become a tradition to vote in swimwear. This started when the maker of "Budgie Smuggler" was giving out free swimming trunks to the first 200 people who voted in smugglers.

I think it is bit of a niche tradition though in beach suburbs in hot areas - have never heard of it myself or seen anyone doing this.

aussie voting is compulsory under pain of fines - got gett em off the beaches somehow!! - wot can I say but the nation [not pollies] has spoken and picked their most suitable party which just happens to be labor? all over rover!! - [no storming of parliament you may have noticed - we are after all a fully civilized country?]

Although not a fan of Peter Dutton (the opposition leader who not only lost the election but also lost his own seat) I did think his speech to the woman who outed him was very gracious.
That is the civilized gracious way to behave in defeat.

I did think it was a bit too cold yesterday for semi naked attire anywhere, let alone at the voting places.

Me too. He did well while he was probably in shock.
