Australian police officer points gun at man pulled up for drink driving

It's wonderful that makes headlines by Australian standards. In the American South that's almost a routine traffic stop under like circumstances. The police here would've said the exit he took was "evading " , he was either" drunk high or throwing out narcotics and/or other contraband ". The driver would've gotten a ticket for DUI, evading arrest , speeding . It would've stuck too

Hmm, better not imbibe and drive...

Australia has zero tolerance for drunk driving and will randomly have stops in the road to check all drivers. Surprised about the guns though and thought they were probably like the UK with cops w/o guns.

While they don't carry guns in Great Britain, they did (maybe still do) in N.Ireland. I appreciate that the situation there was different, but the 'police' were more like an armed, arrogant, paramilitary force.

While I agree there should be zero tolerance for drunk driving...the gun part might have ended very badly.
