Eton mess is a traditional English dessert consisting of a mixture of strawberries, meringue, and whipped cream. First mentioned in print in 1893, it is commonly believed to originate from Eton College and is served at the annual cricket match against the pupils of Harrow School.

p.s. I had to look up Holly's entry of Eton Mess. To save others the trouble, here's Wikipedia's explanation:
Eton mess is a traditional English dessert consisting of a mixture of strawberries, meringue, and whipped cream. First mentioned in print in 1893, it is commonly believed to originate from Eton College and is served at the annual cricket match against the pupils of Harrow School.
..and almost every pub and restaurant in the land... ( and very often has blackberries added) ...also the meringue is served broken into shards :love:

I also had to look up pavlova. Sounds like much the same as Eton Mess but with a more structured presentation.

@hollydolly - Macaroni pudding? Say whaaat? I thought you were just having fun at my expense with that one until I looked it up. Turns out it's similar to rice pudding but with macaroni as the starch instead of rice.
Very few US desserts use meringue (lemon meringue pie being the notable exception, but that pie's meringue remains fairly soft), so you can understand my thinking that Pavlova and Eton Mess would be very similar. I didn't note that different fruits are used. Thanks for the clarification.
