Becoming more modern .....

Yup

I so love the aroma of perc'd coffee
Anymore, a bit too much to do

The 8 cup Mr Coffee does it for me
No options, buttons, gizmos
Flip the switch in the morn
Coffee in 5 minutes
Good coffee
'Course ya gotta start with good coffee
Mine's Kirkland Columbian

There's never a 'remainder' in my pot

There is ...... after you pour your first cup ....... what is left is the remainder.

There's never a 'remainder' in my pot

I guess 'proper' English would have been ...... What remains, burns as it sits.

My remainder goes into an older pot from a worn out Black and Decker, and I put it in the fridge for iced coffee later in the day. Sometimes the fridge pot gets empty, so I make a whole 12 cup batch to make sure I have lots of remainder for the fridge.

Then I pour a quarter of a large glass of cold coffee. I add a half glass of cold water (also from the fridge), add a dollop of vanilla plus one scoop of vanilla flavored whey protein powder, and fill the rest of the glass with milk.

I know, I know. It's weird, but it's what I do.

I have been changing over from drinking coffee to using herbal blends like Teeccino and Chicoraya, which have healthful ingredients like chicory root and dandelion root. Both are good for the liver and kidneys, and since there is no caffeine, I can have a mug whenever i feel like a hot coffee, even right before bedtime.

The Teeccino is made the same ways that you can make regular coffee, drip, percolator, French press, or pour-over. The Chicoraya is instant and is really quick, just needs hot water, which I have been heating up in a pan on the stove.
However, occasionally, I turn on the pan, and wander off to do something else while it is heating and do not get back fast enough, and it worried me that I might totally forget I was boiling water some time.

So, I started looking at electric kettles, and found that there is a HUGE selection of them on Amazon. I found one that has several presets, so it goes to the correct temperature of any kind of tea or coffee, or just heating up water.
I ordered one and it just got here last night, and already, I LOVE it !
I use it to make my pour-over coffee/teeccino, and for the instant chicory coffee, and also heated hot water for my powdered milk to put in my morning oatmeal.

It was expensive, but I had some gift cards from doing surveys, which I used to pay for it, and i am really happy with what all this little kettle does. it holds about a quart/liter of water, and shuts off when it reaches the desired temperature. You can watch it heating up as it shows it while it heats up, and you can choose the keep warm setting to keep your water hot for up to 2 hours afterwards in case you wan to make more coffee or tea.

In the morning I use instant so that I can put in as much caffeine fuel as the particular morning warrants. Then at night I use my keurig to make a cup of decaf for bedtime. I like to buy an assortment box of flavored decaf pods so each evening is something different.

The best temperature for brewing coffee is between 195 F and 205 F. I never make coffee with boiling water ... 212 F.
Thus, i use a Mr. coffee machine with paper filters. It also keeps coffee at the correct temp.
If you get one of those cheap infra-red thermometers, you'll be surprised at water temperatures. The boiling point changes, depending on where you are above or below sea level. And, you'd be surprised at how quickly water cools as soon as it's off the heat source.

I use Keurig but stopped buying disposable cups within a month or two. So expensive and bad for the environment.

Reusable K-cups:

That is right! Apparently those darn little cups that is being forced on the public cannot be recycled. I will repeat that: CANNOT BE RECYCLED.

So, do you believe in trying to save the planet or are you just adding to the present problems with no more room at the landfills? For the record, I still use the good old fashioned basket coffee maker. I never drive to coffee shops and burn gas while inching my car up to the till.
