Being close to someone with body odor

At the drugstore check out today there was a man in front of me who reeked of BO....eeewww....not the kind from just having been in a sports game....nooooo...this was from not bathing, not using deodorant, and also probably dirty clothes.. This was not a street person, in fact I heard him tell the cashier his wife was in the car blah blah.

I held my breath then pretended I forgot something. OMG....how could he and his wife stand such an offensive smell? After he left I got in line again but the stench lingered. Ugh. Gag me.

When I worked downtown I used to take the bus a lot. There were a few times when I moved, and one time the person smelled so bad I stood because there were no seats to move to. I've also gotten into a few taxis that made me cover my nose with my hand - never sure if it was the car, driver, or previous passenger.

I have a keen sense of smell, but BO is BO. Yuk!

How do you handle it?

The very worst situation I was in was when a woman from the state office of the agency I was working with at the time came to our office to lead a project. She set up a table in my office for the two days she was there. It was very obvious that she did not wash her 'lady parts' and Oh. My. Gosh. she fouled up the whole room so badly that I could still smell it the morning after she left. That's with my office window open the whole time she was there ...thank God it was cool fall weather. Every time she left the room, I'd spray it down with citrus Lysol but nothing cut that smell for long.

Blah, I smell people's perspiration. Try to avoid that! Everyone perspires, and now with the departure from perfume use, people naturally stink to me. My mom and dad used to complain about smells so I got a double dose of their noses.

There is a category of individuals who have a passive-aggressive nature & enjoy annoying others.
I was browsing in a book store years ago. A guy (not homeless) smelled horrible. Not just BO or dirty clothes. He actually had a human waste smell - as if his clothes were smeared with it. At first, I just felt sorry for him; I figured he had mental issues. But every time I moved away from him, he kept intentionally following me & pretending to browse a couple of inches away from me. After the 3rd time he did it, I realized he was doing it deliberately & enjoying it. I looked right at him & said, "The next time you come near me, I will hurt you...BAD." When I moved to another aisle, he stayed where he was.

smells I do not do ''' I just walk away till the person has gone ' no need for body smells this day and age '
people sweating in sport aint that bad -so that man is a dirty ole bugger ' :ROFLMAO:

Don’t hold back toffee ! :LOL::ROFLMAO:

I had to fire somebody once for having bad BO, I mentioned it to her, tactfully suggesting she change her deodorant but, the the next week it was just as bad so she had to go, I was so embarrassed but then angry that she had put me in such an awkward position

I had to have a school conference with a notorious family commonly referred to as "the stinkies" whose children smelled so badly that other kids requested seating reassignments. In the conference room their mother emitted a nauseating body odor we barely could stand for the duration of the meeting. It was necessary to ventilate and Lysol spray the room heavily afterwards... :(

How awful. I feel so bad for those children. Irresponsible, lazy parents. A bar of soap and a container of deodorant at the dollar store = $3 total.

The worst situation of this type is when you're stuck next to one of them on a plane. That happened to my son once. We were flying together, but fortunately (for me) we had separate seats. When we got off the plane, he said, "Thank God that was only a one-hour flight!"

Yeah, a worse one is gettin' hit upside the nostrils when you can't see the offender...but they've been there.
Don't quite know which way to go.
It kinda envelopes you.
Hangs there, waiting, then clings, no matter how fast you can push yer cart.
Leaving everthing and running outside, gasping, helps.
But 'it' remains...waiting

I think it'd make a great horror movie
Maybe when smellevision comes out

The Unseen
go ahead, try yer popcorn

About 20+ yrs ago at the electric company (part of a huge corporation) there was a guy people called "stinky". When I had to walk near his desk I understood why - OMG. But the company was lawsuit paranoid.....consultations between HR and the Legal dept. It went on and on endlessly. I guess they were afraid if they said something he'd claim he was "hygienically challenged". 🙄

i have been in the unfortunate situation of being trapped next to "stinky." Some people have a health issue and cannot help it. Others are just not clean.
I never did get used to dealing with the French Navy in Africa. They were not as bad as what has been described above, but it was still an unnecessary distraction. On the other hand, they were quite competent, particularly their aviators.
That fermented kimchee that is consumed in South Korea results in some pretty bad BO and my wife and I learned pretty quickly to avoid local buses in the winter when the windows are closed.
For "all time" stinky", I nominate my daughter's dog. That little min pin is always ripe, even after a bath. And being a lovable little guy means a lot of lap time during any visit.

The worst we ever experienced was on a flight back from Las Vegas, a few years ago. We had the "pleasure" of being seated in the same row with some Dude who apparently spent his time boozing, and didn't have time for a shower for his entire stay. Luckily, he took the window seat, and we spent the entire 2 hour flight leaning towards the aisle, with the overhead air vents on high. It was sure nice to take a deep breath when we finally landed 2 hours later.

For several years i worked with a guy that had some sort of condition that caused him to sweat & smell pretty bad.....It was a true medical condition, and mostly in the summer he would go upstairs & take a shower [mid-day] . Great guy, good employee, etc,....he just had the the sweat/odor problem. I always felt a tad sorry for him......imagine living with that day-in-day-out.

i worked and sat opposite a very large young lady ,in the old days........and she did smell terrible.. .....😷 we did discuss her, between us other workers, and the manageress had to have a word with her.........😱, but then we found out , she had a medical problem.....so, I felt quite terrible , she left our office in the end, and worked in the switchboard room ,on her own !! 🙁😞

Had quite a few times being near the smellies....when in management a young fellow smelled so bad the other employees were actually holding their breaths around him so I had a talk with him....after that he smelled better....at another retail store was a great gal but never used deo....her b.o. was always a strong smell of garlic but nauseating....my boss said, 'aww you'll get used to it' and surprisingly I did, lol....
another time a 250+ guy came into the store after a workout and I almost passed out....the strongest amonia smell ever...had to walk away and ask the other employee, who also was 200 lbs to help him...
